2026 Book Group

Monday, November 16th

The book group meets on the third Monday of each month in the Periodical Room, except on holidays. For November, the selection is "A Lesson Before Dying" by Ernest J. Gaines. Also in November, please send any suggestions for next year's picks by the last book club meeting. The suggestions can be sent to Jodi at this email: bookclub@conwaypubliclibrary.org

"A Lesson Before Dying" is set in a small Cajun community in the late 1940s. Jefferson, a young black man, is an unwitting party to a liquor store shootout in which three men are killed; he is the only survivor and is convicted of murder and sentenced to death.

Virtual Program to Sign Up For

Virtual: WWII Plymouth Blitz

Wednesday, November 18th

7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Registration Needed

Author and researcher Michael C. McLaughlin, Associate Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and PhD Candidate at the University of Plymouth, UK, will provide an intimate, behind-the-scenes look into the history and making of his new book, Plymouth Blitz: The Bombing of Portland Square & the Devastation of a City. Despite being one of WWII England’s most devastating civilian incidents, key human elements of this tragedy remained scattered and untold—until now.

In this virtual workshop, trace the author's research journey, discover the diverse primary sources used to reconstruct this forgotten event, and hear compelling excerpts from the book. Explore how piecing together archival fragments, eyewitness accounts, and hidden records can rescue long-buried personal stories from the ashes of history.

November Reading Challenge

Arthur’s 30-Day Reading Challenge

November

This month, celebrate Arthur’s 30th birthday! Children ages 4-8 are invited to participate as part of a classroom, library, after-school, homeschool, or family reading routine. Read for 30 minutes a day throughout November.

Track your reading using the challenge materials. Read independently, read with a grown-up, listen to someone read, or read to a younger sibling, friend, or even a pet. It all counts! Kids can choose from the treasure chest each week when they turn in a reading tracker. Each week has a different theme. We have take home reading tracker sheets available.
