November 2017
A.S. Government
Hello, Spartans! It’s November which means we are a month closer to finals! The A.S. Board of Directors had a busy October! We participated in an in-service training to learn more about diversity and how to interact in situations that call for cultural competence.

A new resolution in support of the DREAM Act of 2017 was unanimously passed by the board on October 25th. Associated Students will advocate for undocumented students and create an inclusive environment on campus. A promotional plan for the DREAM Act of 2017 will be implemented in the coming weeks. Click here to read the resolution.

In celebration of Disability Awareness Month in October, Branden Parent, A.S. Director of Intercultural Affairs, co-hosted the Disability Awareness Fair with the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and the Accessible Education Center (AEC) on October 24th. The fair gave visibility to Spartans with disabilities and the resources available on campus. The theme was championing inclusion, wellness and diversity on campus.

A.S. Child Development Center
Congratulations to our Child Development Center (CDC) for receiving the Child Care Access Means Parents in School Program (CCAMPIS) grant for $256,155.00 a year for the next four years! CDC is one of 86 schools nationwide to receive the grant from the Department of Education.

This program supports the participation of low-income parents in post-secondary education through the provision of campus-based childcare services. With this grant, the center will be able to more effectively serve children of families attending the university to have a better future.

A special thank you to Maria Davis, the previous CDC director for working closely with the admin team and Tracy, a parent at the center, for their dedication to providing the best education. Their hard work has enabled us to receive this grant!

The Child Development Center is located at 460 S. 8th Street (across the Dining Commons and close to the A.S. Campus Community Garden).
