With the leaves almost gone from the trees, and the nights drawing in, we are busy preparing for and excited about our next show with JRFA artist Patrick Altes at Gerald Moore Gallery in London, opening on 19th November. All welcome!

Also coming up this month, is the Abu Dhabi art fair from 21 to 23 November.

In our Art Matters section, continuing our theme of sustainabiliy in the art, we look at what artists can learn and teach us about the environment. And for our Inspiration , we showcase a fascinating short video on Cartier's trip to the Gulf in the early 20th century, which formed the basis of the iconic jeweller's later style.

If you're in Europe (and we in London still are), wrap up warm and enjoy your month!

With all best wishes from the JRFA team, as always

ART MATTERS
On Artists and the Environment: what can artists learn, and what can they teach us about the environment?
SOME INSPIRATION
In the beginning of the 20th century, Louis Cartier discovers Islamic art. It is an encounter, an aesthetic clash. A great collector, passionate about art and curious about foreign cultures, he sees the power of these stylized yet abstract motifs. In 1911, his brother, Jacques, visits the Gulf to establish first contacts and to set some milestones which will become one of the foundations of Cartier style.
