TAS guides Stefan Schlick and Paul Bithorn lead this 2-week birding tour to Greece, one of the most bird-rich corners of Europe. You'll begin and end in Athens, and in between you'll experience a fabulous cross-section of great birding, magnificent cultural sites, delicious food and breathtaking scenery. Fantastic birding areas ro be visited include Mt. Parnassos, Delphi, Immitos Mountain, Schinas National Park, Evros Delta, the Dadia forest and Lake Kerkini.
This comprehensive tour is designed for intermediate to advanced birders and is limited to 12 participants.
Fee: $2,495 per person double occupancy; $500 single supplement. Fee includes all ground transportation, domestic flight from Athens to Alexandroupoli, lodging, breakfasts, entrance fees, excursions and the services of your skilled leaders. Not included are airfare from your city of departure to Athens, tips, laundry costs and other incidental expenses. Lunch and dinner will be eaten in local restaurants and are paid for by each participant.
Reservations are required; application and fee are due by December 31, 2017.

TAS in the Brazilian Pantanal & Amazon

The Pantanal, the name given to the vast wetlands of southwest Brazil and eastern Bolivia, is famous for congregations of massive numbers of birds and mammals. We’ll stay at some delightful lodges and be spoiled by the easy birding. This tour, which begins and ends in Cuiabá, Mato Grosso, Brazil, is led by Andres Vasquez of Tropical Birding. It is timed for the end of dry season, when birds are often concentrated in the few remaining wet areas and mosquito numbers are at their lowest. Lower river levels will also make it easier to spot jaguars on the sandy banks (a day will be devoted to sighting this alluring feline). The northern Pantanal is easily combined with a trip to the southern Amazon, where the birding is a little more challenging, although the rewards are perhaps greater. The Cristalino Jungle Lodge has its own private reserve with a mind-boggling bird list of nearly 600 species. This itinerary also includes scouting for Jaguars deep in the Pantanal, offering a very real chance to see the most magnificent mammal in the New World.
This comprehensive tour involves two full weeks of birding, is designed for intermediate to advanced birders and is limited to eight participants.

Follow the Path to Everglades Restoration

More than 65,000 people and corporations signed the #noworneverglades declaration, or lobbied legislators in Tallahassee along with TAS this past spring.
Earlier this year, Governor Scott signed
Senate Bill 10
into law, and now the race is on to comply with the aggressive timeline established by the bill. The South Florida Water Management District and Army Corps of Engineers have affirmed their commitment to the project and you can follow progress on the SFWMD “Everglades Agricultural Area Reservoir Project Tracker” on the District’s website.
Stay tuned: SFWMD promises to release modeling results in December that will determine the amount of land required to establish the minimum of 240,000 acre feet of storage stipulated in the bill and called for in the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP), of which the reservoir is a part.
Richmond Pine Rocklands:
Residents Sue to Challenge Zoning Change
Alleging inadequacies in the information provided to neighbors, Miami Pine Rocklands Coalition leaders Al Sunshine and Cully Waggoner filed suit last month against Miami-Dade County, the Coral Reef Commons Developer and University of Miami, seeking to overturn the change in zoning that allowed the planned development of 900 residential housing units and a large scale retail area on a rare, large tract of undeveloped pine rockland.
South Florida anxiously awaits the decision of US Fish and Wildlife Service on whether to allow the “take,” or kill the endangered species found on this unique property. TAS urges “the Service” to recognize the many flaws in the Habitat Conservation Plan presented by the developer and University of Miami, the latter of which still owns a parcel of the land to be developed.

With less than two percent of Miami-Dade's pine rockland remaining outside of Everglades National Park, species that depend on this unique forest, such as the Bartram’s scrub-hairstreak butterfly and Florida bonneted bat, are rapidly facing extinction. Help turn the tide by urging Florida legislators to acquire the pine rockland contained in the “Dade Archipelago,” targeted for acquisition by the Florida Forever conservation lands acquisition program.

" is the sole Miami-Dade Florida Forever project and consists of multiple parcels of pristine pine rockland and rockland hammock. Only 307 of the original 889 acres remain to be purchased.

Miami-Dade County has just begun its seven-year Evaluation and Assessment Review (EAR) of the Comprehensive Master Development Plan. Through this process, major land use and conservation policies are established, including the Urban Development Boundary (UDB).
TAS is a member of
the Miami-Dade County Urban Expansion Area Task Force, which was created to provide recommendations related to the County’s Urban Expansion Areas. To inform these recommendations, the
Task Force will hear presentations from subject matter experts and receive public comments on key topics during scheduled input sessions.
The public is invited to attend and provide input on these issues.

The opening night reception features a Donation Bird Bar.

The fully licensed and insured father-son-nephew carpentry business has been operating locally since Tom founded it in 1973. His decades of experience speak volumes. His mantra is assuring: Provide quality carpentry services to homeowners quickly, efficiently and with a dose of good cheer.
