The Practice of Gratitude

Ever noticed how a walk in the park or a hike in the woods can instantly lift your spirits? It’s not just the fresh air or the scenic views; it's also about gratitude. Yes, that warm fuzzy feeling you get when you appreciate the little things around you.

We make gratitude a part of our Nature Worx sessions for a reason. Practicing gratitude outdoors isn’t just good for the soul; it’s like a nature-powered therapy session. When we take a moment to be thankful for the rustle of leaves under our feet or the sun peeking through the clouds, it's like a mini-vacation for our minds.

Studies even show that a regular gratitude practice can reduce stress, improve sleep, and boost overall happiness. So, why not join us? Let’s explore the great outdoors together, soak in the beauty of nature, and take a moment to be thankful for all the awesome things around us.

See you at the next Nature Worx session, where gratitude meets the great outdoors! 🌿😊

Wellness for Medstar Healthcare Workers

MedStar Health knows how important it is for healthcare workers to make time for self-care, but it's difficult given the fast pace of their workdays. Nature Worx was invited to provide mini-sessions to the staff during the Wellness Fairs at Harbor, Good Samaritan, and Union Memorial Hospitals. In as little as 10-15 minutes, we were able to share breathing exercises and mindfulness techniques in nature that employees can use whenever they need to take a break. Participants reported feeling calmer, lighter, more relaxed, and ready to take on the rest of their day with a better mindset.

Sharing the Benefits of Nature Therapy with Mental Health Professionals

We were invited to present a workshop at the 2023 Harford Trauma Institute Conference "Creating a Healthy and Inclusive Community for Everyone." Our workshop was titled "Introduction to Nature Therapy: Connecting with nature to support self-care and community care." On a crisp, sunny autumn day we led a group of more than 50 people through a Nature Worx mindfulness session, and then discussed our evidence and approach to helping people connect to nature. Many participants stopped by our booth and inquired about bringing our programs to their organization.

Party for a Purpose Supports Nature Worx!

In late September, Party for a Purpose raised more than $1,500 for Nature Worx by hosting a benefit concert featuring the jamming, funky sounds of Freedom Enterprise. They had us moving and grooving! Thanks to Will Gibbons for making this happen, and THANK YOU for supporting our mission to enhance mental health in our community!
