During this Year of St. Joseph, we will offer this Novena during the nine days preceding the first of our ordinations. We will specifically offer this novena in asking St. Joseph to intercede for Jesse Hiett and Deacon Alex Sutachan, as well as all other men and women who are discerning a vocation to religious life, specifically for those within the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau.

Novena Day 6

Opening Prayer

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O glorious Saint Joseph,
faithful follower of Jesus Christ,
to you we raise our hearts and hands
to implore your powerful intercession
in obtaining from the benign heart of Jesus
all the helps and graces necessary
for our spiritual and temporal welfare,
particularly for the grace of a happy death
and the special favor we now request...
for the needs of the people of the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau,
for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life,
for a strengthening of holy marriages,
for all our priests and seminarians,
and for both Nicholas Newton and David Kiblinger, S.J, as they prepare to be ordained
to the Diaconate on their way to Holy Priesthood.

O guardian of the Word Incarnate,
we feel animated with confidence that your prayers on our behalf
will be graciously heard before the throne of God.
O glorious St. Joseph,
through the love you bear to Jesus Christ
and for the glory of His name,
hear our prayers and obtain our petitions. Amen

The Presentation

On this sixth day of our Novena, we recall the worship that St. Joseph and Our Lady offer God in the temple.

“When the days were completed for their purification according to the law of Moses, they took him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord and to offer the sacrifice.” (Lk 2:22, 24)

A brief period of silence is observed.

V. My soul yearns and pines for the courts of the LORD.

R. My heart and flesh cry out for the living God.

Concluding Prayer

Hail, Guardian of the Redeemer,
Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
To you God entrusted his only Son;
in you Mary placed her trust;
with you Christ became man.

Blessed Joseph, to us too,
show yourself a father
and guide us in the path of life.
Obtain for us grace, mercy and courage,
and defend us from every evil. Amen.

O Joseph most faithful, obtain for us through your divine Son the grace of true worship.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
