Health Update
Many of you may know I have taken the last six weeks off from my regular tennis games. Thanks to Dr. Archie Brown and Dr. Robert Quinet, the diagnosis seems to be Polymyalia Rheumatica, which is being treated with Prednisone. So the good news--- I am now back on the courts.
Thanks for your support, thoughts and prayers.

Important Message by Kerri Becker- Volunteer Coordinator
I am looking for volunteers to help in overseeing the Sugar Bowl Championship junior tournament to be held here in New Orleans this weekend. I need volunteers both Saturday and Sunday during the time of 8am-8pm. If you have a couple hours either or both days, please help (no special training needed). This is a very important tournament for New Orleans to host, and we need your help to make it successful. We are using three sites: UNO, City Park, and Atkinson Stern. Volunteers: choose the site and time most convenient for you.
Please let me know if you can help-- have questions contact me at 504-453-5251 or
kerribecker@cox.net
Thank you.
REALLY GREAT NEWS!
NEW ORLEANS
After nearly a quarter-century absence, junior tennis makes a return to the umbrella of events sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl this fall.
The Allstate Sugar Bowl Tennis Classic will be held Nov. 12-14 at the City Park Pepsi Tennis Center.
In its previous iterations, the Sugar Bowl event has attracted the likes of Andy Roddick and Maria Sharapova.
This year's event should produce a high quality field as well, Louisiana Tennis Association president Rob Worley said. Only the top 56 players in the United States Tennis Association's Southern Section will be allowed to enter in each of the eight divisions (boys and girls, ages 12, 14, 16 and 18), and from there, the top players will be selected to the field.
Each of the eight singles brackets will feature a 32-player draw with a consolation bracket. Doubles will also be contested in each age group.
The Sugar Bowl, which sponsors more than 50 amateur events in Louisiana annually, hosted junior tennis events in this format from 1948-93, usually in the week between Christmas and New Year's. It hosted an International Tennis Federation event limited to 18-year-olds from 1994-2001.
Worley said the Southern Section is the largest of the 17 sections of the USTA, spanning nine states, and the event will attract as many as 1,000 players, family members and coaches coming to the Crescent City.

Last Minute 55+ 3.5 Mixed Doubles Louisiana State Champions in Little Rock for Sectionals November 4-6, 2016
The Last Minute team traveled to Little Rock to compete in Sectionals. It was an SEC weekend with teams from Louisiana, South Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky and Mississippi. Last Minute beat South Carolina, Kentucky and Arkansas each 2-1 and lost to Tennessee and Mississippi each 2-1 to end up 3 and 2. We lost a third set tie breaker against Tennessee and one against Mississippi. That was the difference. A great effort with five matches over three days. On Saturday night we relaxed at Samantha's in downtown Little Rock and cheered on LSU as it battled Alabama.
Lots of nice tennis players from around the Southeast and the weather was outstanding. Well done Little Rock.
