120 Books in 2018
"It all started with a challenge.  I was in fourth or fifth grade when I met a Holocaust survivor.  She told me that she had deeply missed books during her ordeal in the concentration camps.  She challenged me to read a book every week for the rest of my life.  I have been doing that for the last fifty-plus years."

Rev. Danny Langley is a Novi resident and the Pastor of Crosspointe Meadows Church.  Thanks to the Library, Danny was able to read or listen to one hundred and twenty books in 2018!  "About forty of the books I read this year were audiobooks through the Library's Hoopla download system."

Among the best books Danny read in 2018 were The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs, by Stephen Brusette, and Masaji Ishikawa's A River in Darkness: One Man's Escape from North Korea.  "I try to read a variety of books every year, including history, classics, biology, spirituality, and comedy.  Thanks to the Library, I have a great source of books available in a variety of delivery systems."
New Series for Young Readers!
This monthly program is designed to engage youth (ages 4-12) in critical exploration of social justice topics through literature.  Topics include bullying, immigration, gender, race, and more.  Guest community volunteers will share children's stories and lead an age appropriate discussion on that month's topic followed by a craft.  This Let's Talk About series meets one Saturday every month from 11am-12pm at one of the six participating libraries.  Click here for dates and topics.
Coding the Future
Coding is becoming a new type of literacy. It will be a huge part of future jobs and isn't just for college students and adults. In fact, many elementary students have been learning to code as early as 3rd grade.  Join us for coding sessions at the Library where children from 3rd to 7th grade will learn everything from basic concepts of coding to more advanced programming.  Program sessions are from 7:15-8:45pm and the dates are as follows:  January 14 & 28, Feb 11 & 25, Mar 11 & 25 and April 8 & 22.  Visit novilibrary.org to register.
Let's Celebrate Unity!
Join us for a free breakfast, music, speakers and fellowship on  Monday, January 21 from 10am 12pm.   Special guests include  Dr. Curtis Ivery (Chancellor of Wayne County Community College District), Awkward Pause Drama, and Black Catholic Gospel Choir.  A special program for children ages 5-10 will take place in the Youth Activity Room to make crafts and have refreshments.  Register for the event here.

Winter Reading Challenge
Are you a Winter Reading Champion?  Join our Winter Reading Challenge!  This year, the Library is participating in the challenge, sponsored by Mark Cuban, joining other libraries around the world.  We challenge you to read at least three books during the month of January and track those books in Beanstack here.    If we reach the collective goal, "Shark Tank" investor Mark Cuban will donate $35,000 to top participating libraries to expand access to the resources we offer within the community.
