Now and Next: Family Leadership Workshop Series

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: What is Now and Next?

Now and Next is a free three-day workshop offered by Kinsight. It helps parents create goals and a plan for their child, their family and themselves. You will learn practical tools you can use now, and, in the future, to support your child and family.

Q: Who is Now and Next for?

Now and Next is for parents of children who have a developmental delay or disability or are at risk of a developmental delay or disability. As a parent, you will be supported with practical tools and techniques to set goals for your child and family, and to enhance your leadership skills to advocate for your child.

Q: Who leads the Now and Next workshops?

Kinsight hosts Now and Next, and trained parent facilitators lead the workshops. You will meet local families who have had similar experiences raising a child with a disability and you will learn useful skills through the program. More than 65 families have taken Now and Next through Kinsight.

Q: When does the series take place?

This fall’s Now and Next program will take place on Thursday, October 15; Thursday, October 22; and Saturday, October 24. The Thursday sessions will be held on Zoom, and the Saturday session will be in person at the Tri-Cities Children’s Centre. You must attend all three sessions to complete the program. Coffee and lunch will be provided for adults, and we provide funds for child-minding on Saturday.

  • Online: October 15 and 22, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
  • In-Person (Tri-Cities Children’s Centre, Port Moody): October 24, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm

Q: How much does Now and Next cost?

Kinsight is covering the cost of the series, so we can offer it to families at no charge.

Q: Two Thursdays and a Saturday is a big time commitment for my family. What support is available?

We know the program takes a lot of time, but parents tell us it is worth it. To make Saturday easier, Kinsight provides money for childcare, as well as free refreshments and lunch.

Q: Will I meet other parents and families through the program?

Yes. By participating in Now and Next, you will join a community of graduates across the Lower Mainland and around the world, including Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Finland. Families who have completed the program through Kinsight continue to connect and support one another.
