Schooner Sultana

Mate

Seasonal Position / Housing, Partial Board & Healthcare Benefits


The Mate is responsible for the safe operation of the schooner Sultana under the direction of the Captains, and is integral to the educational program under the direction of the Captains and Education Director. Sultana’s sailing season runs from March to November each year, during which Sultana conducts programs for students of all ages. In the Spring and Fall, programs focus on late elementary age students for 1.5 - 3 hours. In the summer, Sultana operates multi-day summer camp programs, including some liveaboard programs.

Schooner Sultana

Deckhand Educator

Seasonal Position / Housing, Partial Board & Healthcare Benefits


Deckhand-Educators implement the education programs of SEF under the direction of the Education Director, as well as operating the vessel under the direction of the Mate. Sultana’s sailing season begins in March each year and concludes in November. During that season we conduct programs for students of all ages. Spring and Fall focus on late elementary age students on 1.5-3 hour programs. Summer is occupied with multi-day programs, some of which are liveaboard.

Schooner Sultana

Cook / Educator

Seasonal Position / Housing, Partial Board & Healthcare Benefits


Cook-Deckhand-Educators implement the education programs of SEF under the direction of the Education Director, as well as operating the vessel under the direction of the Mate during the spring and Fall. During the Summer this position becomes a full time Cook during our summer liveaboard programs. The Cook is responsible for preparing three meals a day for up to 20 people in Sultana’s modern galley. The Sultana’s sailing season begins in March each year and concludes in November. During that season we conduct programs for students of all ages. Spring and Fall focus on late elementary age students on 1.5-3 hour programs. Summer is occupied with multi-day programs, some of which are liveaboard.

Paddling Programs

Summer Paddling Staff

Seasonal Position / Staff Housing Available


Working under the direction of the Sultana Education Foundation’s Director of Paddling Programs, a Paddling Summer Counselor will go on day canoe and kayak trips and overnight camping and kayaking trips for Sultana Education Foundation. They are responsible for helping the Paddling team deliver fun and educational programs for our campers. They will help unload and load kayaks and canoes, play games with campers, teach about the natural environment, supervise and lifeguard swimmers, help with overnight camping dealing with duties ranging from tent set up to food preparation to homesickness. Their goal will be to make each day the most fun it can be for each camper. A counselor will alternate weeks where they are on overnight programs with campers and day only programs.

Bay Discovery Camp

Summer Camp Staff

Seasonal


Summer Camp Staff will work under the direction of both the Director and Assistant Director of Science Programs to help provide eeek-long summer camps for young children (ages 5 – 7) based at the Holt Center. Each day camp Staff will participate in set-up and clean-up of daily activities. They will also assist and lead games, crafts, and science lessons. In addition, staff members will play a role in caring for the equipment and marine life in the Holt Center’s Wet Lab, including tank maintenance, weekly feedings, and general animal handling. This individual should have strong interpersonal skills, a love of working with children in the outdoors, and the ability to work in a dynamic and flexible teaching environment.
