Good Deeds in Hard Times
In the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic reaching the Wichita area, Sedgwick County issued a request for donations of personal protective equipment (PPE) to be used by our community's first responders.
WSU Tech
emptied their healthcare, aviation and manufacturing labs of all gowns, gloves, hand sanitizer, surgical masks, N95 masks and protective eye wear to contribute to the cause. They also began using their technology to meet needs created by COVID-19, including their Dremel 3D printers to print more than 500 N95 face masks to be distributed to members of the Wichita Fire Department.
As conversations continued between the college and local leaders, a shortage of PPE and testing supplies was identified. Through vendor relationships, WSU Tech was able to source the following items for the city/county:
- 5,000 N95 masks
- 4,000 surgical masks
- 7,000 pairs of exam gloves
- 400 isolation gowns
- 6,000 COVID-19 testing kits
