Gary Winogrand:
All Things are Photographable
Simchik Cinema
Whether his iconic images were of people in group scenes or individuals in isolation and solitude, street photographer Garry Winogrand (1928-1984) mastered the art of capturing a moment, finding poetry in the still life of human (and sometimes, animal) gesture. His use of natural light and verite style are jaw-dropping--a (mostly) B&W, 35 year chronicling of America (roughly one million pictures, a number of which have never been developed). If you know nothing about Garry Winogrand, it's about time you did!
The Favourite
Early 18th Century England. Inside the castle of a physically ill and borderline incompetent Queen Anne (Olivia Colman), the power of Lady Sarah Churchill (Rachel Weisz), Anne's confidant, advisor and lover, is being threatened. Sarah's destitute and very ambitious cousin Abigail Hill (Emma Stone) has arrived on the scene and a barb-trading struggle for royal favour is underway. Director Yorgos Lanthimos' witty, award worthy account of flamboyant schemers is splendidly performed by all (especially an awesome Olivia Colman) amid gorgeous surroundings.
Please note: The 8:25pm show on Tuesday, December 25 will be played with closed captions for attendees with hearing impairments. The 12:40 and 8:25pm shows on Tuesday, January 1 will be played with closed captions for attendees with hearing impairments.
Mary Queen of Scots
Mary Stuart (Saoirse Ronan) led a turbulent life: Queen of France at 16, widowed at 18, returning to her native Scotland in 1561 and reclaiming her rightful throne. But Mary's attempt to overthrow her steely English cousin, Queen Elizabeth I (Margot Robbie), leads to years of imprisonment and her eventual execution (in 1587). This stylishly sumptuous historical tale of conflicted royal relationships, alliances, machinations, wars and murder, benefits greatly from commanding central performances by Ronan and Robbie.

Wildlife
Simchik Cinema
Great Falls, Montana, 1960). Fourteen-year-old Joe Brinson (Ed Oxenbould) witnesses the shredding of his parents marriage. When his restless father (Jake Gyllenhaal) loses his job and leaves the household to become a firefighter in the remote mountains, his wavering mother (Carey Mulligan), feeling abandoned, decides to reassess her situation. Actor Paul Dano's impressive directorial debut, based on a 1990 novel by Richard Ford (adapted by Dano and Zoe Kazan), is a movie of mature and sensitive emotions, with a career-best portrayal by Mulligan.

Featured Artist - January
I have worked in the arts as a way to be quiet, to allow my thoughts to process emotions, and to explore the many media available to me. The work here represents many years of work. I have tried to keep it simple, using only a few images. I plan to change it to show other pieces I have done or am doing.
