We’ve rescheduled the Spring Soirée!

What do chocolate-dipped strawberries, jazzy tunes, and the Summer Reading Program have in common? The Howe Library’s Spring Soirée! Join us at the Howe on Saturday, April 20 at 7:00 p.m. for the Spring Soirée, the signature fundraising event that brings together library supporters and local businesses to help fund the Howe’s collections and programs. Local author and comedian Andy Borowitz will serve as host during the evening’s festivities. You’ll enjoy hors d’oeuvres and complimentary drinks by Maple Street Catering as well as live music by Grace Wallace and Friends. Purchase event and raffle tickets online. We look forward to seeing you at the Soirée!

Tween Comic Camp

Join Howe Library and comic book author Marek Bennett for Tween Comic Camp! Registration opens April 1 and is on a first come first serve basis. Please note this program is for ages 9-12 only.


This camp meets in the library’s Mayer Room and will run:


  • 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 5 with in-person teaching by Marek. Please bring a lunch.
  • Tuesday and Wednesday, August 6 and 7, from 12:00-2:00 p.m. with a librarian-supervised space to work on comics and guided Zoom support from Marek.
  • 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 8 with in-person teaching by Marek. Please bring a lunch.


The library will supply snacks all four days. Plan on sending a lunch for your child on Monday and Thursday. A water bottle is also recommended.


Adults will be invited to a reception to see your young author's work from 2:00-2:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 8. Copies will also be cataloged in the library's collection. This camp is limited to 20 participants; however, we will consider additional workshops in the future based on the popularity of the program.

The Solar Eclipse is Almost Here!

Check out our eclipse display, located outside of the Garden Room. You can find a drop-in solar craft at the table near the Children's Desk starting Monday, April 1.


Join our Teen Librarian, Kim Baker, in a storytelling event as she shares tales from different cultures about eclipses on Monday, April 1 at 5:00 p.m.

The library has a limited supply of eclipse glasses available. Program attendees can receive a pair of eclipse glasses (up to 2 per family). Starting April 2, any remaining glasses will be available at the Information Desk in limited numbers to library cardholders only. Please contact the Information Desk with any questions about eclipse glasses.

Storytimes Are Taking a (Short Break)

Staff will be using this time to recharge and plan for upcoming programs. See you the week of April 8th for more storytimes and programs at the Howe!

Save the Date: 55+ Art Show Returns in May!

The 2024 55+ Art Show returns to the Ledyard Gallery May 5 - 29. This annual exhibit gives Upper Valley amateur artists who are 55+ a chance to share their creativity with the community. Please register your artwork by Tuesday, April 30 to participate in this year's show.
