Parking Lot Closures

Paving Project: Our parking lot is scheduled to be paved on Friday, June 20 (weather permitting). If needed, work may continue on Monday, June 23, but the lot will remain open over the weekend.


Event Closure: Due to Touch-A-Truck Tuesdays: Garbage Truck, the parking lot will be closed on the morning of Tuesday, June 24.

Summer Reading is for Everyone!

Get ready to Color Our World from June 21 – August 15!


Join our reading challenges and programs for kids, teens, and adults. Expect fun take-and-make kits, workshops, and programs inspired by this year's community read and Summer Reading theme.

Reading Challenge for Kids (Ages 0-12)

The Summer Reading Challenge kicks off Saturday, June 21 at 10:00 a.m.! Pick up your reading log, t-shirt, and pizza coupon*, then start reading to earn prizes, tickets for drawings, and a free book after five reading sessions. Keep reading all summer for more chances to win! *(T-shirts and coupons are while supplies last).

Reading Challenge for Teens (12-19)

Howe Library is hosting a teen-specific Summer Reading Challenge for ages 12-19 and exciting summer programming! Your reading can earn you a free book and chances to win gift cards. Visit the Information Desk to get your game board starting Saturday, June 21.

Reading Challenge for Adults

Adults: Why should kids and teens have all the summer reading fun?  


Beginning Saturday, June 21, visit the Information Desk to pick up a copy of the Summer Reading Challenge, which includes a mini pack of colored pencils (while supplies last). Complete the challenge and you'll be entered into a raffle for a $100 gift card of your choice from Michael’s or Bean’s Art Store.

Summer Community Reads

Pick up a free copy of The Art Thief: A True Story of Love, Crime, and a Dangerous Obsession, by Michael Finkel, at the Information Desk starting Saturday, June 21.

Little Hood @ the Howe

Join us this summer for a collaboration between the Howe Library and the Hood Museum! Come visit the Little Hood @ the Howe, in the New Books area, and find adult art kits supplied by the Hood. Take these kits home or do them at the library, and check back every week or so for new kits!

New Museum Passes

We've added three new passes to our Museum Pass offerings:


  • The Mount Washington Observatory is open from May to October. A special discount on the Cog Railway and the Mt. Washington Auto Road is available in June only.
  • The New England Aquarium pass is good for 50% off weekday admission for four people during the summer (June-August).
  • The New Hampshire Telephone Museum is located in Warner. and admits two people for free.

See a garbage/recycling truck in action! Watch a live demonstration of trash collection, meet a professional operator, and sit in the driver’s seat of a real garbage truck. We advise allowing extra time to park. (Our parking lot will be closed for this event).
