Unearth a Story This Summer!

Get ready to Unearth a Story from June 15 through August 22. We’re digging into everything from archaeology and ancient fossils to the secrets of science and America’s 250th.

Kids

Youth ages 0-12 can join our Unearth a Story reading program and dig into exciting books as you journey through our tunnel-themed reading challenge. Everyone who completes five reading sessions gets a free book. Participants can continue reading for a chance to win raffle prizes.

Drop-in to the Summer Reading Launch Party on Wednesday, June 17 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. to sign up for the Summer Reading Program and make fun crafts. Participants will receive a Summer Reading T-shirt, and a pizza coupon good for one slice while supplies last.

Teens

Play the Summer Reading Game for your chance to win one of our six grand prizes! Earn chances by reading books (up to 10 chances per person).

Drop by the teen area today, Monday, June 15 between 3:00-4:30 p.m., for the Teen Summer Reading Kick Off. Learn about our Summer Reading game for teens (open to 12-19 year-olds), and while supplies last, a summer reading t-shirt, pizza coupon, and other fun surprises.

Adults

Complete our adult reading challenge to receive a token for a small ice cream from Red Kite Candy (while supplies last) and be entered into a raffle to win a leather field journal and pen set.

Join us this summer for another collaboration between the Howe Library and the Hood Museum! Visit the Little Hood @ The Howe in the New Books Area and find adult art kits supplied by the Hood.

This year's Summer Community Reads book is Otherlands by Thomas Halliday. Pick up your free copy (while supplies last) at the Howe and Etna Libraries. Join us later this summer for two programs about themes in the book.

Children's Program Room Closed on Friday, June 26

The Children's Program Room will be closed on Friday, June 26, for the Exploring Life in 1776 Through Crafts program. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Drop-in between 2:00-4:00 p.m. and step back in time to discover what everyday life was like in 1776! Through fun, hands-on crafts, kids will learn how families lived, worked, and played long ago.

Celebrating the 250th: The Hanover History Hunt

Discover and explore Hanover's history in this all-ages scavenger hunt in collaboration with the Hanover Historical Society. Stop into the library and pick up a scavenger hunt map at either the children's or information desk, visit all 8 locations around town and learn about its history, return your map at the library before Monday, July 6, and be entered to win one of three Still North gift cards. Children 12 and under will additionally receive a free book upon completion.

In the Ledyard Gallery: “Finding Joy” by Marjorie Rose

Immerse yourself in "Finding Joy," a vibrant new exhibit by Marjorie Rose that aims to bring light into the darkness during these uncertain times. Described by Rose—a Taylor Swift fan—as the “Eras Exhibit” of her art journey, the show ranges from simple, joyful moments in people's and dogs' lives to colorful landscapes and abstracts. This exhibit is on display through July 29.

Vegetarian Nuggets and Gluten-Free Chicken Nuggets will be available.

The plan is simple. Eat nuggets and decide which sauce is the best!

Try a variety of sauces alongside classic Dinosaur Chicken Nuggets and participate in a saucy face-off bracket!
