Holy Week and Easter Schedule

Instead of writing a blog this week, I want to draw your attention to our Holy Week (The Great Three Days) and Easter schedule, times are listed in the calendar below.

This year we are going to celebrate the three services of Holy Week as one great big service. That means the service technically begins on Thursday and ends on Saturday evening. Each of the days holds a very unique aspect to the story leading up to Easter. I encourage you to join in person or online if this is your first or 100th time.

Easter Sunday we will start with breakfast in the fellowship hall, followed by one service at 10 AM.

We are returning to some lovely traditions that were part of our pre-Covid lives and beginning new traditions. Many of our beloved traditions will be different from the past as we live into this endemic. I encourage you to use the online feature for any service if you are feeling under the weather or have any potential Covid or flu symptoms. We still have to be constantly vigilant and remember our first and foremost charge as people of Christ is to love our neighbors. If you feel unsafe driving at night, please let the office know by Sunday. If anyone is interested in helping drive folks to services at night, also let the office know. We might be able to arrange rides if we have enough volunteers.

For the description of the services please refer to last week's blog or feel free to text or email Pastor Jason. Additionally, on Good Friday, there will be coffee and tea in the campus ministry lounge from 9 AM to 3 PM and Pastor Jason will be available for conversation and/or prayer. The sanctuary will also be open for quiet contemplation. If you cannot find parking, please use the Dryden Street garage, and let the office know if you need assistance paying for your spot.

Yours in Christ,

Pastor Jason

THIS SUNDAY: families are invited to have a conversation in the sanctuary with the chair of Faith Formation Heather Patel and Pastor Jason on “what’s next for our youth and family ministry.”

URGENT CALL FOR ASSISTANCE!

As we transition to one pastor for the time being and Erik begins to ready the building for more use from outside groups, we need additional assistance.

Most urgently we need ushers/greeters for Easter Sunday. It will be a full service with communion around the altar.

We also ask folks to signup (or remind us that you already have) for:

Assisting Minister

Communion Minister

Reader

Acolyte (never too young or too old)

Usher

Create a team of friends and family. Tell us if you want to reserve certain Sundays now (for example first Sunday, second Sunday … etc …). Let the office know how you would like to step in (or continue with) these important Sunday roles.

A training will be held April 23 following our service.

PERSONAL CARE KITS FOR LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF UPDATE:

Assigned volunteer shoppers will go out this week to purchase the last few items that we need for assembling personal care kits, thanks to monetary donations and a Thrivent grant. Our goal will be met, so we don’t need more items. Thank you!

KIT ASSEMBLY AFTER CHURCH THIS SUNDAY!

ITHACA KITCHEN CUPBOARD (IKC)

Thank you for donating 26 jars of peanut butter during the month of March! The IKC needs donations of crackers (any kind) during the month of April. Collection baskets are in the narthex near the Social Ministry table. If you would like to volunteer at the IKC, please see the Social Ministry Bulletin Board for more information and upcoming dates. Thank you!

The World Premiere of Rachel Laurin’s Sonata No. 2 “St. Luke” for Organ, performed by organist Jeffrey Snedeker

Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 7:30 p.m.

The program will also include Laurin’s Sonata for Flute and Organ with flutist Elizabeth Shuhan and her Sonata for Horn and Organ with hornist Alex Shuhan.

HELP END HUNGER

The Farm Bill deals with hunger in the U.S., and globally. It covers federal nutrition programs like Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), environment, trade, foreign aid and rural development. Congressional reauthorization of the bill provides an opportunity to improve programs that feed people while addressing root causes of hunger.

You can have input

ELCA farm bill listening sessions are virtual and being held to gather our thoughts guided by faith values of stewardship, justice and service. This will infrom ELCA advocacy and help shape the bill that Congress passes.
