You Spoke -- LEAD Listened

Your LEAD team held six focus groups to hear congregational reflections related to the transitions we have been experiencing for the past few years. We listened to your thoughtful and honest comments and identified several common themes.

Here is what we heard: You are ready for community! Many of you said we have experienced loss in several ways (e.g., staff transitions and COVID restrictions), but we are now ready to reconnect as a church community. (Coffee hour, greeters, and the Easter Breakfast!) Second, you are ready for action! Many of you talked about a pent-up desire for the congregation to do something, to get moving, to engage. The various transitions and the pandemic limited our opportunities, but now you are eager to go forward. Third, you are ready for clear and purposeful communication! You want to maximize and diversify opportunities for information sharing and transparency. (The new NuHU Weekly and redesigned website!) Finally, you are ready for ministry! So many of you spoke movingly about the ministries at St. Luke that lifted you up (our musical program, our various outreach ministries, family and campus ministries, and the informal personal ministries of friends sharing meals and conversation during coffee hour).

So, what’s next? LEAD’s pause (to facilitate these focus groups in light of Pastor Laurie’s resignation) has given us important feedback. Your LEAD team is sharing our findings with you and the Church Council. This summer we will reconnect with our LEAD journey and again ask your support to help us conclude our First Year “Tune In” process with a congregational survey and some additional focus groups. Then we turn to our neighbors in Collegetown to discern their needs and the gifts we have to offer. We thank God for your continued support and interest in LEAD.

A word cloud has been created for each of the groups that met. If you would like to view the word clouds, listed here at random (not in order of groups that met), please click HERE.

The Annual Meeting of the Congregation will be after church on Sunday, May 7.

NEW WEBSITE!

The (long-awaited!) new website is live at www.stlukeithaca.org! It has several features that we'll highlight in the coming weeks. For now, go explore!

The service livestream is found under the worship section, or...even easier..bookmark this link to not have to go to the site at all!

STUDY HOURS ARE BACK!

St. Luke will once again be hosting Study Hours for students in our community! The church will be open from Thursday May 11 - Friday May 19, 10am-Midnight (Sunday 1pm-Midnight) for quiet study and socializing. Please let students in your life know!

We need your help!

Host: Building Hosts sit at the welcome table, make sure snacks and coffee are available, and take count of students in the building, and make sure everything is going smoothly.  Signup here or there is a paper version in the narthex on Sundays. Online, you select as many slots as you like, then click "save and continue" to add your name. Or just call the office at (607) 273-6811. The small trickle of signups so far needs to be more of a flood!

Snacks: Students always appreciate having snacks, especially homemade cookies! Bring them to the church anytime packaged compactly, and put in either freezer. Store bought cookies are fine, and pretzels are also good for this purpose.  Please bring a label with ingredients if possible.

PAUSE FOR PAWS

New element to Study Hours! On Saturday, May 13 we invite you to bring friendly pets to church anytime between noon and 4 pm for students to take a study break with. Please let [email protected] know if you're planning to do this so we can organize times if there are lots of pets.

Update on Hannah Patel

As we await additional ways we can support the Patel family, please feel free to check-in on updates through the wonderful site CaringBridge. You can visit Hannah's Site: https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/hpatel. Please continue to hold the family in prayer.

Now Thank We All Our God: An Interactive Organ Concert and Instrument Petting Zoo

Children and their families are invited to explore the organ as an instrument of praise at an ecumenical interactive family concert hosted by COLLIS Institute. Anabel Taylor Hall Chapel (Cornell University), 11 AM on Saturday, May 6. More info and RSVP's at collisinstitute.org/sacred-music.

Opera Ithaca will present a new production of Jacques Offenbach’s sinfully delightful Orpheus in the Underworld on April 28th at 7:30pm and April 29th at 2pm at the Hangar Theatre in Ithaca. Opera Ithaca’s Artistic Director and Orpheus stage director Ben Robinson shared, “Opera Ithaca is so fortunate to have a wonderful cast and creative team assembled for this project. The “lighter than air” quality of Offenbach’s music is reflected in the entirely inflatable set. This sight gag will immediately take the audience into the silly sphere of this story.”
