January 2025 BRIEF #12

Alumni Association Annual Fundraising Drive Coming in March

REMINDER

The Alumni Association conducts only ONE fundraising drive each year and it’s coming (as it always does) in March to honor the birthday of Albert Einstein.

We’d like to reach a goal of $8,000. That amount enables the Alumni Association to support the First in the Family Scholarships, student publications, student performances in the arts, and a gift (with advice from our building administration) to the school.

You’ll be receiving reminders throughout March. BUT you can get a headstart now by making an online donation to the Alumni Association at www.aehshof.com.

It’s a great feeling to give back to the school that gave us so much.

2025 Alumni Association Scholarships

The AEHS Alumni Association is moving ahead with applications for the 2025 First in the Family Scholarships.  Three thousand dollars each are provided to two students who’ve been outstanding students and intend to pursue postsecondary education and careers in the STEM fields.  Each recipient is also the first one in their families to be attending college.

The other scholarship provided under the aegis of the Alumni Association is the Michael D. Wolf Memorial Scholarship, a $2500 award to a student for assistance with college expenses.  This scholarship is endowed by Barbara Wolf in memory of her husband, Michael, a member of the first Einstein graduating class in 1964.  The recipient must demonstrate a strong work ethic, a talent for entrepreneurship, and qualities of leadership.

The scholarships are coordinated by Mr. Edgar Trigo of the College and Career Counseling Center.  Applications will be available in February.  Presentations will be made in May at Senior Awards Night.

Third Annual AEHS Career Day

This year, the annual AEHS Career Day will take place on Friday, February 28, 2025. Sign up HERE!

Recycling Memories

One of the most asked questions to the Alumni Association is “do you know where I can find yearbooks”? Folks have lost theirs, or didn’t want one at the time of graduation, etc. So if you have one that you no longer want, or are an older Alum and looking to “declutter”, we can help! Reach out to us through either the Alumni Association at alumni@aehshof.com or the Hall of Fame at chairman@aehshof.com.

Call for Candidates

The Hall of Fame would like to thank Bobby Stouffer (Class of 2010) for his service as Chairman of the Hall of Fame for the last two years. Bobby submitted, and the board accepted, his letter of resignation in December. Patrick Randall has assumed the role of Chairman. Patrick has been our Vice-Chair for the last couple years and served as the driving force behind our Induction Ceremonies and greatly assisted in our Golf Tournament. The Hall of Fame is looking for NEW candidates to fill the other seats on the Board, including Vice Chair, Treasurer and At-Large positions. Any alumni are encouraged to apply. If you have an interest (we need you) please reach out to us through the portal chairman@aehshof.com.

Your current Board is the aforementioned Patrick Randall, Chairman, Carol Chelemer, At-Large, Larry Rosen, At-Large, Malcolm Wilson, Secretary/Treasurer. We are also looking for Hall of Fame members to help us with our scholarship committee. This position can be handled remotely, as our last Scholarship Chair, Gary Martin, operated from California. ZOOM is a wonderful thing.

Also, effective this month, the Hall of Fame has moved to a hybrid meeting to increase participation. Our meetings are once a month, last about an hour, and we encourage you to join us in keeping the HOF moving forward. Those who are local are welcome to come to the room, and those that want to attend via ZOOM will be sent a link.

Winter Sports Superlatives

Senior Wrestler Stone Yuen reached the 100 win milestone, joining an elite group that includes Tim Lowe (2000), Matt Butler (2001), John Butler (2004) and Allen Vasquez (2018). Stone continues his quest for a 2nd State title, and added first place medals at the Mad Mats and Damascus Holiday tournaments. Twins Josh (190) and Issac (215) Ogunlade went undefeated at the South River Duals and received ”Outstanding Wrestler” awards. Issac also added first place medals at Mad Mats and continues his chase for a second State title. Josh finished second at Mad Mats, and rising junior Omid Shorzoi finished fourth.

In the Whitman Girls Tournament, Kaia Condon continued her winning ways with a first place finish.

The first Titan to be drafted into and play in the NFL, Arnold Ebiketie, finished the 2024 season as the team leader for the Atlanta Falcons in quarterback sacks with 6! Congrats!

In the Washington Post Fall All-Met Selections, released in November, Senior Golfer Charlie O'Connor was named Honorable Mention All-Met! Congrats, Charlie!

We are still adding names of alumni who passed away many, many years ago, so it’s never too late to add someone. Please send In Memoriam notifications to InMemoriam@aehshof.com.
