Save the Date: Alumni Association Annual Fundraising Drive Opens March 1
From Carol Chelemer, AEHS Alumni Association
| |
Not exactly news, but worth a reminder. The Alumni Association can only support scholarships, assistance to school programs, the Arts Hall of Fame, and communications to you (our aehshof.com website, our Briefs) with your help. Expenses average approximately $9,000/year. We’re grateful for good wishes, but cash makes it happen. Look for messages during March regarding the fundraising drive and please make a donation (it’s even tax deductible).

MCCPTA Reflections Program Winners Announced
Congratulations to Our AEHS Winners
From Nicole Grant, 2024 PTSA Reflections Coordinator and AEHS parent
| |
I am so very proud and pleased to announce the honorees for this year's MCCPTA Reflections Program. Congratulations to all the MCCPTA student honorees! This year, there were 164 pieces of artwork submitted to the MCCPTA by students at 23 MCPS schools. Every one of the pieces of student artwork submitted to the MCCPTA Reflections program are worthy of recognition, and, as always, the judges struggled to select the honorees. Under the guidelines of the National PTA's Reflections Program, only 3 entries per arts category and grade division are eligible to be moved forward to the State competition.
The following AEHS students had their artwork selected to be forwarded to Free State PTA for participation and judging in the Free State Reflections competition:
Film:
- Prettlophine Cotton received the Award of Merit
Photography:
- Lauren Chiu received the Award of Excellence
- Geysel Lizama received Honorable Mention
Visual Arts Special Artists:
- Durba Roy received the Award of Excellence
- Brian Navarrete received the Award of Merit
Visual Arts:
- Lily Pacuit received the Award of Excellence
We are truly lucky to have so many talented student artists right here at AEHS!
Winners/honorees of the Free State PTA Reflections program will be announced in mid-March. A ceremony for Free State PTA honorees is usually held over the summer during the Free State PTA Convention.
The MCCPTA will be recognizing and celebrating student honorees in the MCCPTA Reflections Program at a special celebration on Sunday, May 19th in the afternoon. All MCCPTA Reflections honorees and their families are invited to this event at Lakelands Park Middle School in Gaithersburg, MD. Names are added to the page as soon as possible after notification has been received. We are still adding names of alumni who passed away many, many years ago, so it’s never too late to add someone. William Alexander Blair (Bill)
Class of 1973
April 17, 1955 - November 17, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that I announce the passing of my brother, William Alexander Blair, affectionately known as Bill. Born on April 17, 1955. Bill found solace in the simple joys of life and left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Bill had a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature, often finding peace in long walks along the beaches of Cape May, NJ, Rehoboth Beach, Virginia Beach, and Sunset Beach in South Carolina and so many other places including Canada. His connection to the ocean reflected his love for the vast and serene expanse of the sea.
Bill did struggle at Einstein, but later on he did pursue his education at Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, where he graduated with an Associate in Arts Degree in January 1994. His dedication to learning and personal growth showcased his commitment to a life enriched with knowledge and understanding.
Bill worked as a civilian for the Coast Guard in Cape May, NJ for two years. He loved the job. His longest job was at Giant Food between Aspen Hill and Leisure World for over 40 years.
In his quiet moments, Bill found joy in the company of family and friends. His warm smile and gentle spirit will be remembered by all who had the privilege of sharing in his life's journey.
As the family mourns the loss of Bill, let us also celebrate the profound impact he had on our lives. May his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration, reminding us to appreciate the beauty that surrounds us and to cherish the moments we have with our loved ones.
Bill is survived by his two sisters, Kathleen, Christine, and his brother, Andrew, nephew Eric, his niece, Jessica and his 2 great nieces and 1 great nephew. He had a life-time friend of over 40 years. Carrie was his rock and Bill was her rock. We all shared a bond that transcends time and space, creating a tapestry of memories that will forever be cherished.
A memorial service will be held later this year, where family and friends can join to honor and remember William Alexander Blair. If you would like to attend, please drop a note to me @ [email protected] and I will keep you posted when his Celebration of Life Event is scheduled this year.
Editor's note: Thank you to Kathleen Blair for providing information.
