Nurture KC launched its first ever community baby shower, Welcome New Peeps, last month. While we attend events across the metro as a sponsor, our dream was to truly give back to Kansas City families and celebrate them. Over 150 pregnant moms registered to attend and the party included a DJ, yoga class, baby food demonstration and the raffling of everything from cribs to car seats to free doula services. Our partners and sponsors provided needed resources to families and truly tangible assistance as families prepare for their new additions.
It is our intention to make the baby shower an annual occurrence as we fulfill part of our vital mission to be active and visible for Kansas City families. Several partners who attended have already suggested ways in which we might build on this inaugural effort in a manner that provides even greater education and assistance for families. This community presence is as important as our individual direct services through Healthy Start and our policy work on behalf of mothers and babies in Missouri and Kansas.
Each year we explore ways to shine a light on maternal and infant health, which we have typically showcased through our annual meeting. We are shaking things up this year by foregoing that event as we focus on a variety of methods to highlight important issues in an accessible way. Be on the lookout for more podcast episodes, community events and discussion of timely issues across an array of media, as we adapt to an evolving landscape of content delivery. We take our role as a community connector seriously and look forward to this next phase of engagement.
