Dear Radiant Futures Friends,

Love Is Here!! It is time for our collaborative fundraiser supporting healthy teen relationships in Orange County.

As you may already know, this annual fundraiser brings together organizations and individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people.

This year, we have teamed up with some of the leading organizations in the area, including Crittenton, Laura’s House, LGBTQ Center OC, OC Pride, Orange County Family Justice Center Foundation, Planned Parenthood, Speak Your Truth Today, and The Priority Center to raise $160,000 on February 7th.

At Radiant Futures, we have set a personal goal of raising $30,000 in the 24-hour period. These funds will directly support our Teen Personal Empowerment Program, education, and awareness work in local schools, and other youth services programs.

Join us in this effort, you can help us to make a tangible and lasting difference in the lives of young people in Orange County.

Angela and her family sought refuge in Radiant Futures’ emergency shelter, escaping an abusive environment of domestic violence that had profoundly impacted their lives. Vivid memories of witnessing this violence during her childhood left Angela grappling with emotional turmoil, yearning for a way to heal and move forward.

During their stay at the emergency shelter, Angela felt shy about participating in services while her mother received multiple services in the healing process. It was not until they completed their shelter stay that Angela's path to healing took a significant turn when she was referred to individual counseling services. This pivotal moment came through a self-referral initiated by her mother, recognizing the need for Angela to address the impact of domestic violence on her mental well-being. It was here that Angela became connected with the Radiant Futures program.

Guided by the compassionate support of her therapist, Angela, who was 14 years old at the time, embarked on a journey to set goals. Together, they crafted a plan to help Angela build new friendships and navigate the complexities of intimate relationships by identifying red flags.

Teenagers navigate a myriad of challenges, and understanding the dynamics of healthy relationships is crucial for their emotional and psychological well-being. Factually, healthy relationships among teens involve open communication, respect, trust, and the ability to express individuality within the bounds of a partnership. Comprehensive sex education programs play a vital role in equipping teens with the knowledge and skills needed to foster such relationships. These programs cover topics like consent, communication, boundaries, and the recognition of signs of unhealthy relationships.

The link between healthy relationships and broader societal issues, such as domestic violence, human trafficking, and intimate partner violence, cannot be overlooked. Teens who lack awareness of what constitutes a healthy relationship may unknowingly become susceptible to these serious issues. Unhealthy power dynamics, manipulation, and coercion, if left unaddressed, can escalate and perpetuate cycles of abuse.
