On February 6th the El Monte City School District in Los Angeles County held an event to highlight and showcase their Breakfast in the Classroom program, which has been rolled out in all of their elementary schools. The California School Board Association interviewed and filmed some of the key stakeholders on the importance of ensuring students have access to the most important meal of the day. CFPA Legislative Update: AB 2449 and SB 1002 Pass First Policy Committee!
On Wednesday, March 26 both AB 2449 (Bocanegra) Adequate Time to Eat and SB 1002 (de Le�n) Aligning Opportunities for Health passed their first policy committee. AB 2449 passed the Assembly Education Committee with a bipartisan vote of 5-1, while SB 1002 passed the Senate Human Services Committee with a bipartisan vote of 8-0. AB 2449 will next be heard in the Assembly Appropriations Committee (date: TBD) and SB 1002 will be heard in the Senate Human Service Committee on Tuesday, April 8.
AB 2449 (Bocanegra): Adequate Time to Eat would ensure that California student have adequate time to eat lunch at school.
