AB 2449 Passes the Assembly Floor!
AB 2449 (Bocanegra), Adequate Time to Eat: Lunchtime Supports Learning, passed the Assembly Floor on Wednesday, May 28 with a bipartisan vote of 51-21!
Thanks to Assembly Member Bocanegra and all of our partners whose hard work has ensured AB 2449's success thus far. AB 2449 will now move on to the Senate.
In order to better define "adequate time" and the existing funds that support school meal service, Assembly Member Bocanegra submitted amendments to AB 2449 that: (1) refer to the 2013 California Department of Education guidelines that define 'adequate time' as a minimum of 20 minutes to eat lunch after being served; and (2) clarify that cafeteria funds can defray costs of food service improvements that increase students' time to eat.
