In an area of Washington, D.C. where over 85% of residents live in a food desert, a group of volunteer undergraduates, post-docs and medical students provide nutrition education to families in order to combat poor diets, which can exacerbate some health conditions.

Atkins Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award from Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer
Michael B. Atkins
The Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC) has selected Michael B. Atkins, MD, deputy director of Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, as recipient of its 2022 SITC Lifetime Achievement Award. The honor recognizes those who have demonstrated a lifelong commitment to improving cancer patient outcomes by advancing the science and application of cancer immunotherapy. A physician-scientist, Atkins is an internationally recognized leader in translational and clinical research with a focus on immunotherapy for melanoma and renal cell carcinoma, and biomarkers for response and toxicity.

The university photographer will be taking headshots in the President’s Room across from Riggs Library on September 14, 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. No appointment required. Free to all staff and faculty. Masks are required in indoor instructional settings, such as classrooms and teaching laboratories, on the main and medical campuses. This applies to organized classes but not informal gatherings, such as those in libraries or study spaces. Masks are also required on university-sponsored public transportation, such at GUTS buses, and university health care facilities including One Medical testing sites.
