Fuel Your Summer!

Summer brings out long sunny days, family outings, and yummy cooked foods. It is always important to stay energized and balanced throughout the summer season!

Eat with the Season - A lot of produce are in season in July! Be sure to check below for the “What’s in Season” chart. Take advantage of the seasonal produce; it's the least expensive and most nutrient-rich!

Hydrate your Body - Drinking plenty of water is important during those hot summer days. Did you know you can also hydrate yourself with water-densed foods? Some examples are melons, citrus, cucumbers, celery, and lettuce. You can hydrate yourself and replenish your vitamins and minerals at the same time!

Master the Cookout - Summer BBQs are filling up the calendar, but don’t cancel your plans to attend! Focus on balance when filling up your plate. Remember to fill half of your plate with fruits and vegetables and choose lean proteins (a plus if it is grilled). Don’t forget to enjoy those desserts in moderation!

Let's Get Movin': Corn Hole!

Corn hole is a popular backyard BBQ diversion for adults, but it also makes a great outdoor game for kids. If you don’t have a corn hole set, it is possible to create one using cardboard and plastic balls. You can also use dried beans from your pantry and place them into a zip lock bag!

  • Place each bag set on opposite sides with a few feet between them.
  • Give each team their colored bean bag and let them toss them toward the hole. Depending on how you’d like to play, points can be awarded for getting it into the hole and a lesser number of points for getting it on the board.
  • Determine how many points earned will mark the end of the game.
