March is National Nutritrion Month!

National Nutrition Month® is held annually in March and is sponsored by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. This month focuses on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. The theme for this year will be “Beyond the Table.”

“Beyond the Table” highlights the farm-to-fork aspect of nutrition, addresses the various ways and places we eat (both at home and on the go), and emphasizes sustainability efforts.

Here are 10 ways to support local food:

1.     Buy directly from a farmer.

2.     Eat at restaurants that use local food.

3.     Ask your local grocery store to sell more local products.

4.     Buy locally-made products at your grocery store.

5.     Plan meals around seasonal produce.

6.     Tell your friends about your favorite food producers.

7.     Grow your own produce.

8.     Tell local institutions to support local food.

9.     Become an advocate.

10.  Join your local Food Council.
