How you've helped your neighbors in need on their road to self-sufficiency.
Healthy eating advice from our Nutritionist

Another service we offer our clients at Beverly Bootstraps, thanks to funding from Maridee's Healthy Eating Program in memory of Maridee Feeherry, is access to our nutritionist, Olivia. Low-income populations have increased risk for various diseases linked to lack of access to fresh, healthy foods.

With her help, we have been making an effort to offer more nutritional foods in all of our food programs, including more proteins and produce. Olivia educates our clients how to plan, cook with and eat these ingredients within their own dietary needs. Not only does she cook up delicious tasting samples and provide the recipe, but she also offers individualized dietary advice.

Olivia explains, "For my first demo, I roasted sweet potatoes. It launched off conversations with clients about diabetes as they had concerns about sugar intake. I advised several of these clients about food related strategies to better manage their blood sugar levels. On my followup demo, one client was excited to inform me that they were able to keep their blood sugar within their desired range since the last time I was here."

Not only do we want our clients to have enough food, but also the right food, to stay healthy.

So many ways available to get rid of your old textiles

At Beverly Bootstraps, we depend on your generosity and effort to donate gently-used items to The Thrift Shop. We understand that giving to us does take effort since “condition” plays a major role in what we can accept as donations. (click here for what we accept) However, that extra effort pays off in the form of helping your neighbors in need. The Thrift Shop proceeds go a long way in funding crucial programs such as our Food Pantry, Education Classes, After-School Programs and more.

We understand that there are simpler ways to dispose of your goods, particularly textiles. We ask that you, please, take the time to sort through your clothing and accessories and donate those items that are clean, in-season, and in good condition to The Thrift Shop.

In order to better serve our clients, we rely on your resolve to make a difference. Help us help those in need!
