This Christmas, we rejoice in the miracle birth of our Savior Jesus Christ, born so that we may have eternal life through faith in Him. ENGAGING THE COMMUNITY IN DESIGN: An Invitation to Dream Together

Last week, Esperanza Health Center staff, FIFTEEN Architecture + Design, Community Design Collaborative, and community members and residents gathered together for a community workshop in Kensington. This was the first of three workshops hosted by The Community Design Collaborative in partnership with Esperanza Health Center to develop public spaces around our Kensington health center site and our new communtiy wellness center, The CORE. Attendees were invited to dream together and give input about what they would like to see in a public space for the community. Multi-colored post-its filled the walls as community members and residents wrote down their vision and hopes for what these spaces would someday become!

Welcoming Esperanza Health Center's Newest Pediatric Provider: DR. PHILIP T. SIU, MD

Dr. Philip Siu, MD is a board certified Pediatrician who joined Esperanza Health Center in November 2022. He was first recruited by Dr. Carolyn Klaus to serve as a volunteer physician in 1989 when Esperanza Health Center first opened their doors on 5th Street. Now, 33 years later, Dr. Siu is excited to be back and serving again at Esperanza. During his free time, Dr. Siu enjoys woodworking. He finds great joy in turning what some call junk into something beautiful. “Like what the Lord does with us sinners,” he said. His favorite Bible verse is James 1:27: “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.”

YOUNG AT HEART SENIORS GROUP Christmas Caroling & an Office Parranda

Our Young at Heart Seniors group knows how to spread Christmas cheer! Last week, Esperanza Health Center leaders and staff joined our Seniors in a morning of Christmas caroling. Group members were encouraged to bring instruments of their own to join along with Jake Becker, Chief Administrative Officer on guitar, and Anna Cole, Community Programs Coordinator and Ted Voboril, Director of Development, both on violin, who led the caroling with their instruments. The time ended with a parranda through our Hunting Park site, in which our Seniors spread Christmas cheer throughout the administrative offices and medical hubs with their maracas, drums, and caroling! If you or a loved one are interested in joining our weekly Seniors group, contact Ohsana Valle at 215-302-3150, ext 323.
