CONGRATS, CLASS OF 2021! Nearly 300 graduates walked across the stage on the O’Dowd football field last month, celebrating the close of this important chapter in their lives. "We found joy in our community," said Valedictorian Ciela Johnson '21. "And we all have one thing in common: being able to call O'Dowd home." We know that wherever their journeys take them, Dragons always have each other.

FORGING HER PATH
Shalaya Shipman ’02, Director of Strategic Business Development for Small Business at Salesforce, was recently spotlighted in “How Four Women Created Their Own Roles at Salesforce.” In her self-created role, Shalaya empowers the acceleration and success of Black and Latinx-owned Small-to-Medium Businesses. Her approach is rooted in her personal commitment to closing the equity gap and cultivating economic empowerment in Black and Latinx communities.

MOVING BEYOND HYBRID
As we prepare to return full time in the Fall, “we want to acknowledge how teachers and students rose to the occasion,” says Dr. Lisa Lomba, our new interim Principal. “We transitioned to hybrid before Easter Break, offering both remote and on-campus options for students. Our community's ongoing commitment to continuity of learning, as well as immersion in athletics, drama, debate and more, is a testament to the strength of our Dragon community.”

ImpactZ, an O'Dowd student-led organization founded by Mary Lee '22 and Alana Mieses '22, collaborated with St. Joseph Notre Dame in a hygiene drive for women experiencing homelessness. Last month, a team of students made 50 cards for 50 women! These cards of hope and encouragement went out in "goodie bags" to women in homeless shelters throughout the Bay. ✨

Andrew Ong '21 was a 1st Place Winner of the SIFMA Foundation Stock Market Game! Out of 210 teams and 600 students across Northern California, Andrew applied research, critical thinking, and analytic skills to make real world stock market decisions. He won first place by achieving the highest portfolio value or greatest growth against the S&P 500!

Coach of the Year! 🥇 Our head football coach David Perry led O'Dowd in a perfect season and was named Coach of the Year by West Coast Preps! “I try to find creative ways to create leaders within the program and really do a player-driven program instead of a coach-driven program,” Perry says. “The fruits of our labor were in the season.” Read the article!

MICHAEL PERRY ’04 recently launched Maple, heralded for its emerging “family tech” in StartUp Savant. Last month, Michael sponsored a Transitioning into Motherhood event featuring fellow alum, RACHEL NICKS ’02, founder of Birth Queen, a non-profit that trains and educates Black birth workers and empowers Black parents.

TAMARIK RABB ’17, one of 380 graduates from the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business this year, received the “Confidence Without Attitude” award at graduation.

ELLEN MYERS ’10 graduated from Columbia Medical School, where she was enrolled in the Columbia-Bassett program, focused on a patient-centered, trauma-sensitive approach to medical education. Ellen is going on to an OB/GYN residency in Delaware.

Our seniors are profoundly grateful for their O’Dowd experience and excited to join the ranks of more than 15,000 Dragon alumni worldwide!
