January 20 we celebrate St. Sebastian. He is known as the saint who was martyred twice. He was shot with arrows and miraculously survived and then was beaten to death. He is the patron saint of soldiers and athletes because of his physical endurance.
Prayer to St. Sebastian
Dear Commander at the Roman Emperor's Court, you chose to be also a soldier of Christ and dared to spread faith in the King of Kings - for which you were condemned to die. Your body, however, proved athletically strong and the executing arrows extremely weak. So, another means to kill you was chosen and you gave your life to the Lord. May athletes be always as strong in their faith as their Paton Saint so clearly has been. Amen.

Everyone is invited to attend the parent prayer group gathering to pray the rosary after drop off on Wednesday, January 17th! No experience necessary!
What is the rosary? The rosary is a way to structure prayer and focus on different aspects of Jesus' life through Mary's perspective. Catholics have been using the rosary since the 1200's when St. Dominic taught people how to pray using the rosary beads!!
This group will also meet on Jan. 31. Watch the school calendar and bulletin for additional dates. It's sure to be a great way to start your Wednesday!
From the Reading Room
We're really excited to announce a new monthly newsletter that will be sent out to all parents who have a child in Preschool - 5th grades. Reading Connections has been shown to help parents improve their child's reading and writing achievement, boost test scores, help with listening skills, and includes tips for reading comprehension, and for finding books and learning games that will interest your child. The newsletters are fun to read and full of info that we think you'll love! They will be sent home once a month, either in a paper version or electronic version, based on teacher preference. We would really like to hear what you think of these newsletters once you start receiving them!
School clubs offer the opportunity for students to explore special interests and are run by parent volunteers after school. A club can focus on just about any topic that kids might have an interest in - Legos, math games, chess, world cultures and languages, etc... are just a few of countless possibilities. If you are interested in leading or co-leading a club at O'Hara, please contact
. Time spent volunteering will count toward FIP hours.
A list of clubs to be offered will be announced in the Bulletin as soon as club leaders are in place, and signups will follow soon after. The first round of clubs will begin in early February and end prior to Spring Break. Additional clubs may be offered after Spring Break and will be announced later this spring.
