SECOND WEEK OF ADVENT
This week is the second week in Advent.
We light two purple candles.
Oh come, Emmanuel!

Dear Lord,
Through the darkness, I look for your wisdom.
I want my heart to be open to you.
But sometimes in these days, it seems that
so many things come between us.
Help me to be awake and aware
of the radiance you bring to my life.
Help me to be grateful each day
for the blessings of family and friends.
Let me be a peacemaker
in my own life, and in the world.
Let me pray especially for this difficult world
and those who are so in need of an end to violence.
My heart begs for this as my Advent prayer today.
  Prayer from  Creighton Ministries

Advent Parish Mission at St. Mary - TONIGHT
St. Mary Catholic Church invites everyone to join them for their Eucharistic Parish Mission with Father Louis Guardiola of the Fathers of Mercy. The Mission begins tonight, Sunday, December 10th at 7 pm. Father will give four more talks on Monday (12-11) at 1 pm and 7 pm; Tuesday (12-12) at 1 pm and 5:30 pm; Wednesday (12-13) at 1 pm and 7 pm and Thursday (12-14) at 1 pm and 7 pm.  Father will hear Confessions after the 1 pm sessions and before and after the evening sessions. Please come and bring a friend! Click here for more information.

Please join us for a prayer service to celebrate the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe on TUESDAY, December 12, at 8:15am in the O'Hara gym.
Each year, on December 12, we celebrate Our Lady of Guadalupe.  The Virgin Mary appeared to a  peasant man named Juan Diego near Mexico City. In order to show others proof, he miraculously collected roses that could not otherwise grow near the apparition site. When he opened his cloak (tilma) to show others the flowers, the image of Our Lady appeared on Juan Diego's tilma.

Did You Know???
*The feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe is so important in Mexico that it is a Holy Day of Obligation and a national holiday.
*Our Lady of Guadalupe uniquely shows Mary pregnant with Jesus.
*Our Lady of Guadalupe is patroness of all of the Americas.
*Those devoted to Our Lady of Guadalupe celebrate beginning very early in the morning with Mass and continue with celebrations throughout the day.

Advent Penance Services
The season of Advent is a time of preparation for the coming of Christ and the best way to prepare is to go to the Sacrament of Reconciliation to confess our sins and to receive the graces to live holier lives. All Penance Services are open to anyone (there is no requirement that you attend the service at your own parish). See below for the schedule:

* Monday, December 11, 7:00 pm....Our Lady of Perpetual Help  (Bi-lingual)
* Wednesday, December 13, 6:30 pm....St. Helen (Bi-lingual)
* Tuesday, December 19, 7:00 pm....St. Mary (Bi-lingual)
* Wednesday, December 20, 6:30 pm....St. Alice (Bi-lingual)

Sibling Applications for 2018-19 School Year
O'Hara families that are interested and/or planning to enroll a sibling for the 2018-19 school year must turn in a completed Sibling Application by Monday, January 8. We ask that please turn in an application even if you are not 100% sure that you will enroll so that we have an accurate assessment of space available for new families next year. Please contact Mrs. Conway with any questions or concerns.

Scheduled vacations & absences
If your family will be leaving early for, or returning late from, Christmas break, please send  Barb an email to let her know so she can mark your students out. Thank you.

Inclement Weather Decision and Notification Process Reminder
If it becomes necessary to cancel or delay the start of school due to inclement weather, O'Hara families will be notified in the morning via an automated phone call and text message. The information will also be posted on our Facebook page.

O'Hara typically follows Eugene School District 4J's decisions regarding weather delays and closures. However, we also take into consideration the larger geographic area that our O'Hara families live in and are mindful of what those travel conditions might include. The safety of our families and staff is our primary concern. A decision regarding school delay or closure will normally be announced by 6:30am in the morning.

Please note, in the event of questionable weather, we expect and encourage each family to make their own decision for safe travel based on location and circumstances. If your students will not be to school on time, please  email Barb to let her know.

REMINDERS
New process
for Hot lunch ordering began on December 4

All lunch orders must be placed online using our  Same day ordering is still available, however all orders must be placed using the  online ordering system  and the deadline to place a same-day order will be 9am. Due to the restrictions of our software program, payments online can be made via credit card, debit card or a PayPal account; we can no longer accept cash or check. The O'Hara front office can no longer accept hot lunch orders via phone or email. This change streamlines our process, eliminates miscommunication and decreases wasted food and cost.

We never want to see a child go hungry for lunch. Due to this change, we are unable to offer a hot lunch to a student if the order hasn't been placed by the deadline of 9am. However, if a family has missed the order deadline and their child needs a lunch for the day, the kitchen staff will prepare a sunflower butter and jelly sandwich on whole wheat bread for them and charge the meal at the current lunch rate of $3.95 for PreS-3rd / $4.95 for 4th-8th. The meal will include sides of fruit and/or veggies.

The  ordering link can be found on the O'Hara website, and has also been conveniently placed on the O'Hara app. If assistance is needed in navigating either of the ordering avenues, please reach out to Tracy Whalen, our kitchen manager, at  twhalen@oharaschool.org.

St. Mary volunteers needed
If you are receiving tuition subsidy from St. Mary Catholic Church and are looking for a way to fulfill your subsidy requirement, please consider volunteering for Sunday hospitality:

Sunday coffee & donut hospitality is in need of volunteers: there are a couple shifts that need to be filled.  It is typically a 1 hour commitment; once a month helping after each service.  It is a fun and easy way to complete subsidy hours while building community and getting to know others who share your faith.  If you can help, please contact Carolina Jackson at gz.carolina@gmail.com or (541) 704-8301.
