Significant updates to the HIPAA Security Rule prioritize protecting electronic protected health information (ePHI) amid escalating AI-driven attacks and ransomware.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has finalized enhancements addressing compliance gaps exposed by recent breaches impacting millions of patient records.
Key Compliance Strategies

Maintain written policies – Develop and maintain written HIPAA policies and procedures that cover privacy, security, incident response, and breach notification requirements for PHI/ePHI.

Provide ongoing workforce training – Require and document HIPAA training for all workforce members (including leadership) at hire and at least annually, with role‑specific examples of permitted uses and disclosures.
