THREE PERFORMANCES LEFT!

HALIE!
The Mahalia Jackson Musical
PLAYING NOW THRU DEC 24TH
Magic Theatre, San Francisco

"Once you hear Jeannine Anderson sing as Halie, you will never forget her voice or her message.

Mahalia Jackson influenced Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, James Cleveland, [and] many others who rejuvenated our music.

Mahalia Jackson is still with us, now and forever. Bless Her!"

Barry David Horwitz

"[Jeannine Anderson's] voice has a deep, penetrating core, with a plush vibrato lining. When the star powers her way into a number, supported by her male trio and a four-member band behind them, “Halie!” digs in.

“Hold on,” Anderson sings in one particularly infectious refrain, “Keep your hand on the plow and hold on.”

Farmers whose operations make a minimum of $10,000 and a maximum of $400,000 in gross sales annually. Accion Opportunity Fund
Accion Opportunity Fund—formerly known as The Opportunity Fund—is doing something about inclusive access to financing by focusing on people of color, women, veterans, and LGBTQ+ business owners. By seeking out funding partners who are willing to subsidize loans based on the demographics it’s serving, they can offer competitive interest rates and fees to ensure you’re given fair access to capital.
Suggested first steps: Fill out their loan inquiry form to get a quote on what funding options are available to you.

Launch with GS

If you have less than $5 million in annual run-rate revenue and less than 10% top-line growth with at least one diverse founder, co-founder, CEO, or President, you are eligible to apply for this program.
Suggested first steps: learn more about their program on their information page.

Contracting Opportunities
Minority Contracting, BIPOC-owned Business Support Programs Launched
The City of Oakland announced the launch of two new business support programs funded by a $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Agency (EDA). Half of the funds will support a training program for minority-owned small contractors with the balance supporting technical assistance for BIPOC-owned small businesses. These programs anticipate delivering services to more than 1,110 small businesses and up to 50 small construction contractors over the next two years. To achieve these goals, the City has engaged three trusted community partners with the necessary technical expertise as well as the cultural and linguistic competency to assist Oakland’s diverse small business community.

To help small minority-owned contractors in bidding on and winning City contracts, Merriwether & Williams Insurance Services will provide technical support services for BIPOC-owned construction firms. One-on-one business assistance and training will prepare businesses to navigate the requirements of construction contracts for the City’s Capital Improvement Projects. Contractors interested in receiving support should contact Merriwether & Williams at (510) 740-6922 or email [email protected]

To advance the City’s equitable economic development and recovery goals, staff from partner organizations – The Unity Council and Black Cultural Zone CDC – will conduct in-person outreach to BIPOC-owned small businesses along low-income commercial corridors from East to West Oakland. Businesses interested in receiving support should contact Karen Gordon Brown with the Black Cultural Zone at (510) 470-0183 or [email protected]; or Mayra Chavez with The Unity Council at [email protected] or visit www.unitycouncil.org/biz.
