Greetings OABSE Members, Friends, and Supporters!

As we dive into the new school year, I am excited to share several important updates and opportunities for growth within our organization.

Call for Institutional Memberships:

We are extending a special invitation to school districts across the state to become institutional members of OABSE. Joining as an institutional member provides access to valuable resources, professional development, and a platform to support Black educators and students across Ohio.

For more details on membership benefits and how to join and renew, please visit OABSE.org or reach out via email.

September Superintendent Commission Luncheon:

The recent superintendent commission business luncheon was a rewarding experience, featuring an insightful presentation by Dr. Ivory Toldson, a distinguished professor at Howard University. Dr. Toldson’s discussion focused on P-12 achievement and chronic absenteeism—critical issues as we work to close the achievement gap and address barriers to student success.

Affiliate Growth Strategy:

In alignment with NABSE's growth strategy, OABSE is actively exploring plans to establish and reactivate the Cleveland Heights affiliate. This effort is part of our commitment to expanding our reach and impact throughout Ohio. Stay tuned for more updates as we move forward with this important initiative.

NABSE International Conference – November:

Affiliate presidents, don’t forget to register and encourage your local members to register for the NABSE International Conference this November. Meetings specifically for affiliate presidents will take place on November 20 and 21, offering an invaluable opportunity to network and collaborate with affiliate leaders from across the U.S. and beyond. You won't want to miss it!

Coalition of Allies (COA) Strategic Initiative:

As part of the Coalition of Allies (COA) strategic initiative, all affiliate presidents are encouraged to appoint two representatives to the COA Design Team. This is a critical opportunity to shape the direction of our work and ensure we have strong representation.

Please visit nabse.org for more detailed information. As always, thank you for your continued dedication to our students, educators, and community. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of so many.

Forward ever, backward never,

Thandabantu Maceo

OABSE President
