Farewell to OAC General Manager, Mark Durall

Mark's last day is June 7, 2024. If you see him at the Club, please don't hesitate to stop and wish him well!


After 21 years of outstanding leadership and service, Mark Durall will be stepping down as OAC General Manager. Never satisfied with the status quo, Mark was always committed to helping the Club improve, grow, and achieve its full potential.


Besides contributing to many of the improvements you see today, his commitment to excellence and the member experience at the Club never wavered. He genuinely cared about the members and the staff and it showed. His positive attitude, work ethic, and desire to make a difference every day will be missed.

 

Mark said, “I’m sincerely grateful for the opportunity I’ve had to serve you and support the staff at OAC. This company makes a positive difference in people’s lives and I will miss working here and all of you. William James once said, 'The greatest use of a life is to spend it on something that will outlast it.'"


Recently, the Club owners conducted a nationwide search to find the best candidate possible to manage OAC after Mark leaves. Mark stated, "I can honestly tell you that I’m impressed with their selection and I’m looking forward to introducing him to you. I’m confident he will do a great job!”

“Practice doesn’t make perfect, it makes permanent.” This has been Maria's guiding principle throughout her athletic journey. It has been marked by both triumphs and setbacks, including multiple injuries and surgeries. These experiences have provided Maria with a deep understanding of the obstacles individuals encounter in their pursuit of fitness.

 

For more than six years, Maria has worked as both a coach and a trainer, engaging with individuals from diverse age groups and athletic backgrounds. Maria's greatest fulfillment stems from witnessing the profound impact she has on the lives of her clients.


She cultivates a supportive environment where clients feel valued and motivated to push past their limits. Maria creates personalized training programs that address the unique needs and aspirations of each client.

 

Maria says, "My coaching philosophy is like planting a seed. It’s not just about making your muscles stronger; it’s about helping you grow stronger on the inside like a tree. I want to help people become resilient and have a mindset that’s always growing."

Welcome Jay! Swimming teacher, Splashdown instructor and budding scientist!!!

Jay teaches Splashdown on Friday mornings at 8:00 and 10:30. Sign up for Splashdown by clicking her photo, through the portal, or through the app!

We hope you get a chance to meet Jay and welcome her to OAC! She is part of our talented team of swim instructors. She also leads Splashdown (water aerobics) classes in the first floor pool on Friday mornings.


Jay has over 8 years of experience teaching swim lessons in Seattle. She makes learning to swim fun and engaging by playing games and getting to know her students. Jay is an incredible swim instructor and enjoys working with all levels and ages of students.


She is extremely patient and encouraging because she understands that swimming can be scary at any age. She loves helping people gain skills and confidence in the water.


When she's not in the pool, she is mainly studying. She will graduate college this year with two degrees, Environmental Science and Art!

June Swimming Lessons at OAC!

Summer officially starts on Thursday, June 20, 2024, the longest day of the year! We are lucky to live in the Pacific Northwest with so much access to water. If you've been thinking about improving swimming skills or starting from the very beginning, our June calendar is open and ready for reservations!


We offer private and family swim lessons to OAC members age two and older. Sign up via the Mindbody app or Aquatics page on the OAC website.


For family lessons, please sign up for one swimmer and then let Michaela know that you want to add more family members—Mindbody doesn't have an option to add extra people, but she can do it manually.

Introductory Workshops with Personal Trainers!

Trainer Kris Iliev, with an example of one type of selectorized resistance equipment covered in the Equipment Orientation workshop.

Take advantage of these opportunities to learn from OAC personal trainers. These introductory courses are designed to help you improve your workouts by learning how to use equipment properly, work on balance and core, etc.


Each workshop is 45 minutes. They are conducted at a slower pace than workout classes and include time for questions and answers. Class size is limited to allow for a more personalized learning environment.

  • Intro to Mobility, Flexibility, and Stretching - Mondays 12:00pm and Wednesdays 1:00pm w/ Kris
  • Intro to Strength Training - Wednesdays 9:00am w/ Iris
  • Intro to Stability and Balance - Fridays 2:00pm w/ Leilani and Maria
  • Intro to Core Conditioning - Sundays 11:00am w/ Leilani
  • Equipment Orientation - Selectorized resistance (equipment adjusted with a pin or lever) focus - 6/08 w/ Iris and 6/16 w/ Kris 12:00pm

Markus, pictured above, brings The Ten Minute Method to OAC! It's an innovative class that goes in 10 minute bursts for an incredible workout that's also a lot of fun!!
