Community Action Agencies Band Together to Assist Flooding Victims
Community Action staff from across Ohio joined together this month to help the Eastern Kentucky community recover from devastating flood damages. The agencies shared monetary donation links and created donation drives for needed items like water, food items, animal food, diapers, and wipes.

MYCAP hosts free Community Health Day

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Cars lined up around the block for the Mahoning Youngstown Community Action Partnership (MYCAP)’s first free Community Health Day on Friday.

The Ohio Department of Health originally approached them about a COVID-19 vaccination clinic, but the project bloomed with vendors for mental and physical health services, booths for back-to-school healthy habits and a mobile market. There was also a mobile library.

MYCAP’s community services manager Cirell Howard said they wanted to hold the event right before kids headed back to the classroom.

“Encouraging the children in the community to get vaccinated as our most vulnerable going back to school. So we decided let’s make it a community health fair.” Howard said.

Valley View Health Centers has ribbon cutting

Elected officials at every level of government, as well as other dignitaries and community, gathered at Valley View Health Center’s Behavioral Health and Recovery Support Services building, located at 13800 US Route 23, for a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Community Action Committee of Pike County’s executive director Keith Pitts opened the ceremony with remarks stating that CAC has always been a huge part of his life his father served as executive director in the early 70s and he is constantly in awe of what CAC has accomplished over the years.

“Community Action has stepped in to fill the void whenever there’s a need in the community,” Pitts said. “That’s not something that you see everywhere..."

Backpacks, school supplies giveaway Saturday in Warren

The cost of sending kids back to school is expensive. But FOCUS, Trumbull Community Action Program, the Greater
Warren-Youngstown Urban League, Second Baptist Church, and Sapphire Aesthetics and Wellness are looking to help reduce your costs.

A citywide backpack and school supply giveaway will take place in Warren from noon through 2 p.m. Saturday, August 13 at the FOCUS Building, 2051 Niles Rd. SE.

To receive a backpack and school supplies, parents or guardians must bring the student to the giveaway, one backpack per student, while supplies last.
