Head Start kids show gains, especially in math
|
|
Head Start students showed improvement over the 2018-19 school year, according to outcomes data released by the Lorain County Community Action Agency on Monday. In the fall, the majority of the preschool students were below expectations in each of the six categories. By spring, most of the children moved into either meeting or exceeding expectations.
Shauna Matelski, director of Head Start, said she is pretty happy with the results and that they show student growth. The six categories that are measured are social emotional development, physical development, literacy, cognitive development, language development and mathematics.

Historic Bank Transformed into Mixed-Income Housing
The adaptive-reuse project was designed to meet Enterprise Green Communities certification. The units include open concept designs, modern finishes, and fully equipped kitchens with Energy Star appliances, including dishwashers. Community amenities include an on-site management office, two community rooms, a computer room, and multiple laundry spaces. Supportive services, such as parenting classes, job placement assistance, and wellness information, are provided through
West Ohio Community Action Partnership.

You can know that this man was truly loved by so many because of the outpouring of support for the family’s request. PICCA received more than $1,200 in cash donations and bags of toys for the program.
