BLOG: Head Start Family Gives Back

For Kendra Irwin, Community Action is not only the organization that prepared her son Connor for kindergarten, it is the support her family needed to get through a financial hardship and gave her the opportunity to give back.

With enrollment beginning for fall Head Start classes, more families will soon be able to share a similar story.

OACAA welcomes new staff member

OACAA would like to extend a warm welcome to Emily Nolan as a new member of Ohio’s Community Action Network!

Emily joined the OACAA staff as the Communications and Development Specialist in May 2021. In this role, Emily will work closely with OACAA Communications Director Kathryn Clausen and Development Director Josh Summer to generate content and assist in grant writing efforts.

Dr. Jacklyn Chisholm, President and CEO of Step Forward, was featured in Career and Lifestyle magazine this quarter! The magazine is published by The Women of Color Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit located in Cleveland, Ohio.

Article excerpt: A chance meeting with poet Maya Angelou early in Chisholm's career profoundly changed the way she interacts with others. "Ms. Angelou had that way of making me feel that I was the most important person during our brief encounter. I try to embody her famous quote, 'I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." I strive in all my interactions to make people feel that I see them." she says.

Leadership development workshop to be offered in Piketon

The Workforce & Business Development Program at the Community Action Committee of Pike County will be conducting a no-cost workshop, “Leadership Development: Coaching Employees,” Wednesday, Aug. 25 from 1-3 p.m. at the OhioMeansJobs Career Center, located at 941 Market Street, Piketon.

This process focuses on how to effectively build trust and honesty with employees when providing coaching feedback on their performance. The result is happier employees that feel respected, appreciated and trust their supervisors.

HAPCAP for Health launches Glouster Community Garden for 2021 growing season

The HAPCAP for Health program is kicking off the 2021 growing season with the launch of the annually supported Glouster Community Garden.

In collaboration with Community Food Initiatives, the Village of Glouster, and HAPCAP’s Athens Employment Program, the HAPCAP for Health program has officially opened the garden for both HAPCAP-supported initiatives and public use.
