Community Action Agencies work to improve the quality of life of low-income people by connecting them with resources such as food assistance, job training, and education programs. They also can provide a range of support for seniors.

Warren County Community Services, Inc. is now recognized as Ohio’s 48th Community Action Agency. CEO Dawana Fogarty said this recognition is an important moment.

"We now can directly apply to grants offered by the state and the federal government to bring more resources into the community," Fogarty said.

She said over the next two years, her group will get almost $550,000 from a community services block grant. It will go to the program. >>> READ STORY

ASHTABULA — Mealtime can be a challenge for many seniors facing limited mobility, fixed incomes and social isolation, which can all contribute to food insecurity.

The program operates Meals on Wheels for homebound seniors in the northern part of the county, as well as three congregate dining sites in partnership with the Ashtabula Center for Active Living, the Conneaut Human Resources Center, and the Village of Jefferson, according to a press release.

All of the meals for the program are made fresh daily in ACCAA’s Jefferson kitchen. Located at Jefferson Giddings Park Hall, the kitchen staff produces an average of 402 meals each day Monday through Friday.
