OACAA Executive Director Earns COAD's Dave Rinebolt Community Service Award
Last week, OACAA Executive Director Philip E. Cole was honored by Ohio Partners for Affordable Energy with the Dave Rinebolt Community Service Award. The award recognizes leaders who demonstrate the attributes and qualities of service inspired by the late Mr. Rinebolt.

"Dave was a firm believer in strengthening every community in which he was involved," said Cole. "It was a great honor to receive this award." >>> READ BLOG
Blog: HARCATUS Youth Employment Services Programs Earns Ohio Treasurer COMPASS Award

HARCATUS Tri-County Community Action Organization’s Youth Employment Services (Y.E.S.) program was one of two organizations honored with the August 2022 Compass Award. Launched in January of 2020, the Compass Awards issued by Ohio Treasurer Robert Sprague aim to highlight Ohioans and Ohio organizations working to advance financial literacy and spur empowerment, per the Ohio Treasurer’s website. >>> READ BLOG

The nomination form for the 2022 Exemplary Awards is live on our website! The submission deadline is 5:00 pm EST, December 1, 2022.

The OACAA website contains details about the program, guidelines, scoring rubric, and information on how to develop and submit program nominations.
2023 Social Media Calendar Toolkit Released
For the second year, OACAA is releasing a customizable Canva Social Media Calendar Toolkit. The toolkit includes traditional holiday posts, program-specific posts, and ideas for possible social media series.

With posts for nearly every week of the year, we hope this toolkit assists with 2023 content planning.

New Early Childhood Center Opens in Marion

The Marion Area Chamber of Commerce and guests of Ohio Heartland Community Action Commission (OHCAC) held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Oct. 13 at the new Jan Hulse Early Childhood Center at 2381 Harding Highway East.

The building was previously occupied by the Marion County Board of Developmental Disabilities (MCBDD) and was purchased by the Commission at auction in April 2022. Since that time, OHCAC has been busy making the necessary changes in the facility to accommodate Early Head Start (ages 0-3) as well as Head Start (ages 3-5) programming. >>> READ MORE
Bike Shop offers much more than bicycles for local students

A Lorain bicycle shop offers much more than bikes for local youth and the general public.

The Lorain County Community Action Agency Bike Shop is located in the Ronald Nabakowski Youth Center, at 204 W. 10th St. opens after local students end their school day.

After all, the cozy shop is run by students under the new leadership of Jeffrey A. Ross Jr., Youth Service Coordinator for LCCAA.

Step Forward Relocates Neighbor-hood Opportunity Center

This week, Step Forward opened its newly relocated East Neighborhood Opportunity Center (NOC) location at 763 East 200th Street in Euclid. The site, which replaces the Glenville NOC, moved to a more central location to better serve communities on the east side of Cleveland.

"With opening this new site, we are really able to stretch our service area,’’ said LaTasha Thomas, the new location’s coordinator.
