Pedal for Prizes Turns 15:

Old Brooklyn’s Favorite Ride Returns

On May 17th, Pedal for Prizes is back for its 15th year! This beloved neighborhood bike-riding event has grown from a few dozen riders in its first year to about 500 in recent years, becoming one of the largest free cycling events in Northeast Ohio. Every spring, community members embark on a group bike ride through the Old Brooklyn neighborhood, visiting local businesses and other landmark spots to collect raffle tickets for the chance to win unique prizes, including brand new bicycles.

Old Brooklyn Rolls Deep: Pedal for Prizes Dream Team

What do a coffee shop, exterminating company, ice cream shop, two graphic design firms, and a bicycle/plant shop have in common? Besides calling Old Brooklyn home, these businesses, along with a few engaged residents, lead the efforts of Pedal for Prizes on the planning committee. Be sure to stop by Speed Exterminating Company, Metropolitan Coffee, Honey Hut Ice Cream, JAC Creative, Kristen Wilson Design, and Sixth City Cycles to support these businesses and say thank you for putting on such a great event!

Write On! Students Team Up with OBCDC

Baldwin Wallace University students in the Jacket Philanthropy Program partnered with OBCDC this spring to write a grant for a rental supplies library to help community members access tools and equipment for community events and programming. Although we didn’t win the grant award, the team valued the hands-on experience and meaningful connections made while supporting neighborhood needs through service learning.
