Change to In-Person Worship Schedule
Dear Oakland Family,
On Tuesday, January 5th, our Deacons met virtually to discuss returning to in-person worship after the Christmas and New Year holidays. We recognize positive COVID numbers have increased throughout our state and nation in the past two weeks. In consultation with the staff, our Deacons have made the decision to postpone returning to our sanctuary for in-person worship until January 31st.
For the Sundays of January 10, 17, and 24, our staff will lead a livestream worship service beginning at 8:30AM. You can access the livestream on our website (oaklandchurch.com/obcworship) or YouTube Channel (youtube.com/user/OBCRockHill/videos). The service will be also available on our Website and YouTube Channel after it has ended.

Our Deacons will evaluate this situation again on January 25th, but at this time our plan is to resume in-person worship in our sanctuary on January 31st. At that time, we will include new guidelines of no congregational singing, no congregating in the aisles before or after service, and a renewed emphasis on maintaining our previous protocols. You can read those guidelines HERE.
While I’ve been excited to deliver our State of the Church sermon this coming Sunday, in light of our Deacons decision, I have decided to move that sermon to January 31st. On that Sunday, I look forward to sharing with you a vision for the new year. Even though we’ve experienced some rough waters the past few months, there are exciting things ahead for Oakland!
I hope you will join me in making a conscious effort to remain positive! Now, more than ever, I see light at the end of the tunnel. Join me in praying for a quick distribution of a vaccine and the opportunity to consistently be together without any fear of sickness.
Thank you in advance for understanding this decision and remaining faithful to being a good neighbor to our community. Allow me to close with the words a colleague recently shared on Facebook: “The more we discipline our desires now, the sooner we see one another in that way our heart embraces. Do the possible until the possible includes our deepest want.”
Grace and peace,
Pastor Jeff

New Ladies Bible Study

Invitation from Shirley Bailey:

Ladies, join us for our new study on Tuesday nights from 6:15PM - 7:30PM for a 7-session, video based women's Bible study.

All day, every day, an invisible war rages around us — unseen, unheard, yet felt throughout every aspect of our lives. A devoted, devilish enemy seeks to wreak havoc on everything that matters to us: our hearts, our minds, our marriages, our children, our relationships, our resilience, our dreams, our destinies. His battle plan depends on catching us unaware and unarmed. If you're tired of being pushed around and caught with your guard down, this study is for you.

The enemy always fails miserably when he meets a woman dressed for the occasion. The Armor of God, more than merely a biblical description of the believer's inventory, is an action plan for putting it on and developing a personalized strategy to secure victory. CLICK HERE to view several short videos about this study and order your study guide. Books may arrive quicker by ordering from Amazon.

Contact Shirley Bailey (shholland@comporium.net) or Patti Robinette (probinette1861@gmail.com) if you need additional information. Please CLICK HERE to sign up, or contact Shirley or Patti so that Zoom information can be sent to you for each lesson. We look forward to seeing you starting Tuesday night, January 12, at 6:15PM.
Rain or shine, in-person or virtual, Pastor Jeff will deliver his annual State of the Church sermon on January 31. Included in worship that day will be a video highlighting the many ways ministry has continued, even during a challenging year. We look forward to the opportunity to reflect on this past year, present exciting plans for the year to come, and give thanks for God's faithfulness.
