Bearing Witness Sermon Series

We may not be able to solve all the world’s problems, but we are called to bear witness to the injustice and heartache we see around us. During this six week sermon series we will explore how we can speak the truth of Christ to very difficult subjects. This Sunday we will talk about the role of the church in education.
Guest Speaker
Wednesday, January 30

We are excited to welcome Sullivan Middle School Principal, Mr. Juan Roldan, to lead us in a conversation on education. Join us in the Chapel at 6PM to hear his life story as an immigrant from Venezuela seeking a better life and education for he and his family. Mr. Roldan will talk about his vision for Sullivan Middle School and ways in which Oakland Baptist members can support their teachers, parents and students.

Mission Movers Update

Thanks to all who donated plastic bags. Winthrop used them during their Martin Luther King day of service to make sleeping mats for persons experiencing homelessness.

Also, all classrooms have a bag or jug with soda can tabs. Please save yours and add them to the containers. They will be collected through March 15. These tabs will be given to Ronald McDonald house which generates funds through the recycling of them.
Our youth are collecting non-perishable food items as part of the Souper Bowl of Caring offering. The Souper Bowl of Caring, a nationwide movement, uses the energy of the Super Bowl to care for those in their local communities who are hungry.

Help us tackle hunger in Rock Hill by placing your non-perishable food items on the table outside of the Sanctuary or under the welcome table in the Gym. Last year we were able to take 1299 items to Project Hope. Let's work together to make it at least 1300 this year!
Grief Support Group
February 4, 1PM

Beginning in February, on the first Monday of each month, those who have experienced loss are invited to join Suzanne Ringer for grief support. This will be an opportunity for folks to learn, share and remember those we’ve lost and loved. If you have any questions contact Suzanne.
Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper
March 5

Save the date and make plans to join us for pancakes on March 5th. Our youth will be serving dinner. There is no cost for this meal, but donations will gladly be accepted. All donations will be used to offset the cost of our summer mission trips.

Shrove Tuesday, otherwise known as Pancake Day, is chiefly marked by feasting and celebration, which traditionally preceded the observance of the Lenten fast. We hope you will join us for a fun and festive pancake feast, complete with jazz music, Mardi Gras beads and more. Please click below to let us know if you plan to attend.

New Tuesday Night Ladies Bible Study
Begins February 5, 6:15PM - 7:30PM

Gideon: Your Weakness. God’s Strength  by Priscilla Shirer will be the new study for the Tuesday Night Ladies Bible Study. This is a study which focuses on the fact that our "weaknesses don’t stand a chance in the face of God’s overwhelming, almighty power.” Through this study we will be encouraged to recognize our weakness as the key that the Lord gives us to unlock the full experience of His strength in our lives. Instead of ignoring or trying to escape our weaknesses, we will learn to see them as the gifts given specifically and strategically by God. If you've ever felt insufficient, ill-equipped, incompetent, or outnumbered, this study is for you. Click here  for a promotional video and more information about the study. We would love for you to join us.

Contact Shirley Bailey ( shholland@comporium.net ) or Patti Robinette ( probinette1861@gmail.com ) for more information and to receive a book ($14.)
