Advent Workshop - December 1
Workshop, 4PM-4:45PM
Worship, 5PM-5:30PM

Join us for an afternoon of activities and worship as we prepare ourselves for the journey through Advent. There will be an opportunity to make a special Christmas decoration that will help you and your family focus on the true joy of the season. There will also be craft and storytelling stations for children. We will end our time with worship which will include a Moravian Lovefeast (cider and hot cross buns). We are asking that each family make a $5 donation at the Advent Workshop to offset the cost of supplies. Please click the button below to let us know if you plan to attend the Workshop and/or Worship.
Celebration Worship
November 17

Join us at 8:45AM or 11AM on November 17 for a special time of worship as we celebrate the completion of the first book in James Bryan Smith's The Good and Beautiful series . We have loved hearing about the wonderful and transformative conversations that have taken place in your Sunday School classes and small groups, and look forward to celebrating that together in worship.

If you missed some of the sermons, or would like to hear them again, they can be viewed by CLICKING HERE.
Welcome Back, Melissa

On Sunday we had the joy of, officially, welcoming Melissa Sealy Church back to Oakland Baptist Church. Melissa is the daughter of Richard Sealy and grew up at OBC. She works at Southern State Rebar and has already volunteered to serve on Sound Booth Committee.

Melissa comes by transfer of church letter from Highland Park United Methodist in Florence, SC.
All Saints Banner

A beautiful banner has been donated to our church for All Saints Sunday (November 3). The banner was made and given in honor of Becky Sanderson and Suzanne Ringer by Joye Mann and the Banner Ladies of Union United Methodist, Irmo, SC. You are invited to place a bell on the banner in memory of your loved ones. The banner will be in the upstairs hallway before services on Sunday. Bells will be available at church or you may bring a small bell from home.
Missions & Discipleship for Children
This Sunday, 5PM-6PM

Children (Kindergarten -5th Grade) are invited to a special time of discipleship based on the church-wide  Good and Beautiful  trilogy study which will include an emphasis on missions. The discipleship time will help our children learn what Jesus did and how to follow his example. The mission time will allow our children to put what they've learned into practice.

This Sunday evening we will be visiting Project Hope to learn about the work they do for people in our community.
2020 Budget Presentation & Vote
November 6 & 10

On Wednesday, November 6 the Finance Committee will present the 2020 proposed budget. This presentation will take place in the gym. There will be an opportunity for questions and discussion. Prior to November 6 you will receive an email which will contain a copy of the proposed budget and the Nominating Committee Report. Printed copies will also be available in the church office. On Sunday, November 10, during both worship services, we will vote to approve the 2020 Budget and the Nominating Committee Report.

Below are links to a letter from Jeff, the 2020 proposed budget and the Nominating Committee report. Absentee ballots will be available in the office beginning Monday.
Veterans Day Luncheon
November 10

The Military Task Force invites you to attend a luncheon at 12:30 p.m. on November 10, 2019, in the gym. Our guest speaker will be COL Bob Clark, U.S. Army Retired. He presently serves as the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Director of Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps.

Invitations and free tickets will be mailed to all OBC veterans and their spouses, as well as parents and grandparents of our active military personnel. Please plan to join us as we recognize and honor our veterans on this very special holiday. Extra tickets will be available in the office and from MTF members for $10. You may also click the button below to purchase tickets online. Deadline to purchase tickets is noon on November 5. We hope to see you there!
The Ministry Center Drop Box is re-opening on November 2!
Taste of Oakland Cookbook

As a part of our celebration of Oakland's 70th anniversary we are creating a "Taste of Oakland" Cookbook. Just imagine how many friendships have been formed, hearts have been nurtured, and stomachs have been filled while enjoying pot-luck meals at OBC!

Just like a pot-luck meal isn't complete without each person's dish, our cookbook will not be complete without each person's favorite recipes. Please submit up to four of your favorite recipes (appetizer, side dish, main course, breakfast, dessert, bread, etc) by December 31. You may email your recipes to cookbook@oaklandchurch.com. We are so excited for this Taste of Oakland and look forward to seeing your recipes!
Children and Youth Basketball

It's time to sign up for Church Basketball! We offer teams for children and youth in grades 1 - 12, through the York County Christian Basketball Association. For those in grades 1-4, the cost is $35/child. For those in grades 5-12, the cost is $45/child. Jerseys are included in the cost.

Please click on the button "Put me in coach!" to register your child(ren). Due to team size limitations, first priority will be given to church members. Non-members are welcome to play if we have space. Priority to non-members will be based on date of registration. Please register by November 3.

If you would like to pay with a credit card, click on the button "pay for basketball." Please type "basketball" in the comments box. If you would prefer to pay with cash or check, you may drop off your payment to the church office anytime between now and the beginning of the season.

We do not know the exact schedules yet, but practice will begin in late November and games will begin in early January (some youth teams may have a couple games in December).
