The Good and Beautiful book series
God is Love
As we enter October, one of our two missions emphasis months at OBC we encourage you to give to the CBF Offering for Global Missions. Our goal for the year is $30,000. We still have a ways, but together we can get there! You can make a donation to this great ministry by clicking the button below and typing "Global Missions" in the comments line. You may also make a donation with cash or check, but please make sure your envelope or check have a note designating it for Global Missions Offering.
Final Call

Contact Missy by Monday at Noon (803-328-3864 or obcoffice@oaklandchurch.com) if you would like to join us for Dave Barnes A Very Merry Christmas. This fun, festive concert is part of Blumenthal's Christmas lineup. If you are not familiar with Dave Barnes, his music is similar to Jim Brickman's and quick google search will provide a preview of his music.

The concert begins at 7:30PM on December 12th. Tickets are $30. We will take the bus and stop for dinner before enjoying this great concert together.
We have the awesome problem of an expanding English as a Second Language Program! In order to adequately serve this growing ministry we need more helpers! Please consider volunteering on Wednesday evenings. Volunteering for just 30 minutes would make a big difference. And don't worry, you do not need to be able to speak Spanish.

Here's how you can help from 5PM-5:30PM:
Set up materials in the Fellowship Hall
Make sure everyone has a name tag and new participants are registered
Help participants get their meals

Here's how you can help from 6PM-7PM:
Assist one of the ESL teachers

Here's how you can help from 7PM-7:30PM:
Put materials back into the ESL Closet

If you are interested in helping with one or more of these opportunities, please click below. If you have any questions please contact Sue Smith (tasmith@comporium.net) or Missy in the church office.
Toward Bold Faithfulness

When CBF Executive Coordinator, Dr. Paul Baxley was at OBC he gave us a sneak peak into an upcoming initi ative called Toward Bold Faithfulness. This initiative launched Monday. Dr. Baxley said the time is right for the Fellowship to enter a “shared season of discovering where God most needs us to place our energies so that our congregations can thrive, and Christ’s mission can flourish among us.” Click "More Details" to read about this exciting season of discernment and discovery.
Missions & Discipleship for Children
This Sunday, 5PM-6PM

Children (Kindergarten -5th Grade) are invited to a special time of discipleship based on the church-wide  Good and Beautiful  trilogy study which will include an emphasis on missions. The discipleship time will help our children learn what Jesus did and how to follow his example. The mission time will allow our children to put what they've learned into practice.

In November we will meet on the 3rd & 17th.

Spice Up Sullivan
Thursday, October 24th

Do you have a delicious Fall bread, cookie, cake or muffin recipe that you could make to share with our teacher and faculty friends at Sullivan Middle School? Pumpkin, Apple, Carrot, Chocolate... any fall flavor will do! (Please slice your bread/cake!) Items need to be dropped off at the Church Office by Wednesday, October 23 at 6PM.

Also, several Volunteers are needed to take the goodies to Sullivan on
Thursday, October 24 at 7:45AM. If you can make a treat or help with delivery please click the button below or contact Kelly Scott at (803-517-4627 or bknscott@gmail.com) or Suzanne Ringer (803-328-3864 or Sringer@oaklandchurch.com) by October 15. We need enough items for 95 faculty members.

OBC’s partnership is making a difference at Sullivan. Thank you for your willingness to serve!
Whenever there is a death in our church family, the Bereavement Committee organizes and serves a meal for the family, or serves refreshments after the memorial service. This is a special and important ministry of hospitality and love. In order to do this, the Bereavement Committee relies on you, our members to help prepare food. Please click "more information" to read about the simple ways you can be part of this ministry. And then click "I'll help!" to sign up.
Children and Youth Basketball

It's time to sign up for Church Basketball! We offer teams for children and youth in grades 1 - 12, through the York County Christian Basketball Association. For those in grades 1-4, the cost is $35/child. For those in grades 5-12, the cost is $45/child. Jerseys are included in the cost.

Please click on the button "Put me in coach!" to register your child(ren). Due to team size limitations, first priority will be given to church members. Non-members are welcome to play if we have space. Priority to non-members will be based on date of registration. Please register by November 3.

If you would like to pay with a credit card, click on the button "pay for basketball." Please type "basketball" in the comments box. If you would prefer to pay with cash or check, you may drop off your payment to the church office anytime between now and the beginning of the season.

We do not know the exact schedules yet, but practice will begin in late November and games will begin in early January (some youth teams may have a couple games in December).

Christmas for Connie Maxwell

The “wish list” has been received from Connie Maxwell and currently the gift tags are being prepared. Distribution of the gift tags will begin on November 3. Due to a little difficulty getting all the tags adopted last year, we will distribute tags for the children first. Please make an effort to secure what he/she has requested and limit your purchase to approximately $20-$25 (this avoids the possibly of hurt feelings and/or disappointment when other residents receive pricer gifts). In addition, the facility has asked that gifts be wrapped in boxes if at all possible. Many of the gifts are transported to a satellite campus after their arrival in Greenwood. Gift bags just do not hold up as well.

Thank you! ~Jane Rawls

Save the Date for our Veterans Day Luncheon
November 10

For the past 5 years, Oakland Baptist Church has hosted a Veterans Day luncheon for the veterans of OBC and their spouses. This year we will continue the tradition with the addition of recognizing parents and grandparents of active military personnel. Veterans Day is the day that Congress set aside as a federal holiday to honor all American veterans. It is only appropriate that we recognize and honor our own. The Military Task Force invites you to attend a luncheon at 12:30PM on November 10, in the gym to help us as we attempt to do just that.More information will be coming soon.

Dear Oaklanders, thank you for your concerns – calls, prayers, cards, visits, food (so many to list).  Jane and I appreciate greatly your many instances of caring.  It is wonderful to have such a fantastic family in Christ!  Thanks again!  After encountering some snags, it appears the latest procedure indicates that healing has started on the torn meniscus.  It was great to be back Sunday. ~ Gerald Allen
