Nominating Committee Report
Vote on Sunday

At the conclusion of worship on August, 11 the members of OBC will vote to approve the Nominating Committee report of teachers and leaders for 2019-2020.
This past week marked the three year anniversary of Eddie Ramsey and John Posey serving at Oakland Baptist Church.
Eddie, thank you for the way you so graciously and faithfully care for so many at OBC! Your presence among us is appreciated!
John, the way your musical gifts add to our worship experience is greatly appreciated. Thank you for worshipping and serving alongside us.
How would you like to serve at OBC?

Our Nominating Committee will soon begin filling spots on committees for the upcoming year. Please let us know which committee(s) interest you most by clicking the button below or by signing up on the list outside of the main office. You are not committing yourself to any committees, you are simply indicating interest. Thank you for your willingness to serve.
Do you volunteer with our children or youth?

This year the Preschool and Children’s Committees, along with Kim Shaw, Leigh Reynolds, Megan Paat and the Safety Committee, have worked to review and revise the OBC Child Protection Policy. Part of this policy requires that all who work with our children and youth be trained on the policy and attend annual training in order to keep our children, youth and workers safe. Also included in the update to the policy is the requirement that all who work with our children and youth have a background check before working with our children and youth and every three years thereafter.
We are hosting 2 training sessions this August. All workers (Sunday School, Wednesday night activities, overnight chaperone, etc) need to attend one of the sessions. If you work with children or youth at OBC and are unable to attend one of these dates, please reach out to Kim Shaw, Leigh Reynolds or Meredith Westbrook. Parents are also welcome to attend one of the training sessions.

From Caroline Krueger:
I am excited to report that we had a very successful school uniform distribution on Friday, Aug. 2, and Sat., Aug. 3. In our Fellowship Hall. We served a total of 180 students with two complete outfits each. These students and their parents were very grateful for this tremendous help.

We are so very indebted to Lynne and Rich Flagler and Deana Peterson, all of whom worked all year collecting the uniforms, tagging them, organizing them into bins according to size and gender, and storing them until we needed them. On Thursday, Aug. 1, a group of deacons and others assisted in transporting the uniforms from the Ministry Center to the Fellowship Hall and organizing on tables.

The custodial staff did a great job under Missy’s direction to set the tables up as well as chairs in the halls, which served as waiting rooms. All of this under the Flaglers’ direction. Special thanks to Missy for directing the set-up of tables and chairs, to Martina for keeping track of cash donations, and to Marty Mobley for making sure the building was open and air-conditioned for us.

We appreciate so very much OBC members who contributed cash ($425) and many uniforms, new and gently used; and of course, hats off to all the volunteers who worked diligently in preparing the uniforms and being on hand the days of transport and distribution. We had several who have never helped us in the Ministry Center before, and we hope this will be their initiation to continue our good work.

The school district worked very well with us in helping us get out the word about the distribution as did our other partners. The break-down of schools served is as follows: Saluda Trail MS –35; Sullivan MS – 50; Dutchman Creek MS—43; Castle Heights MS–27; Rawlinson Rd. MS—9; Sunset Park Elem. –5: and Palmetto School (Children’s Attention Home )–4. A few neglected to sign in by schools. We have taken the left-overs back to the Ministry Center and will continue for a few “shopping” days on Wed. and Sat. to give them out. After that, they will either be stored for next summer or placed on racks with regular stock.

From Kina:
I'm writing in regards to the Sunday School classes who took up donations for Jasmine and Adrian to have Carowinds passes. Still to this day, my heart is full of joy that you would be so kind to people you have never met. I can't begin to tell you how great of a time they are having. Jasmine has been camper of the week twice this summer. They are doing and learning so many new things. I don't even know how to repay you for such a selfless act. I appreciate you more than you know. You guys and gals are outstanding.
