July 30, 2020
Dear Oakland family,

I speak for many in saying how much I was looking forward to returning this Sunday for in-person worship. I am in agreement, however, with our Deacon leadership that the time is not right. COVID-19 cases continue to rise in our community and we need to take the necessary precautions which includes postponing worship in our sanctuary building. Please know how difficult many of these decisions have been for the staff and our Deacons. We continue to meet regularly via Zoom and discuss the possibilities of returning to the building.

The last few months have been taxing on all of us. I will continue to pray for wisdom in the days ahead.

Continue taking care of yourself and each other! It is a privilege to serve as your pastor! ~Jeff
August Worship Series

Sir Isaac Newton’s third law of motion states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. In other words, an object cannot remain still when impacted by an external force. Newton used a pendulum to simulate how this law works. This year has impacted all of us and forced us to move beyond our comfort zones. What will we learn from this experience? How will this impact our church moving forward? To answer those question our worship focus for August will come from the book of Acts. We will learn how the early church reACTed to difficult situations and how those reACTions shaped their understanding of what it means to be the church.

Worship will be available on YouTube as it has been. However, we also have an opportunity for you to watch worship "together," throughout the month of August on Zoom. If you would like to join our Worship Watch Party CLICK HERE  on Sunday morning at 10:55AM. The service will begin streaming promptly at 11AM. All viewers will be muted, but the chat box will be available.

As part of our Christmas in July celebration we have been collecting socks and underwear for the Ministry Center. You may drop them off by the Church Office through the end of July. Or, you may send a check or make a donation online, but please ear mark it "Christmas in July."

Also, the Ministry Center is now accepting the following items by appointment or other arrangements by calling Caroline Krueger (leave a message if no answer): middle-school uniforms (also being collected until end of month at Sylvia Circle School); teen clothing (all seasons); all fall/winter clothing; all shoes; housewares, toys, books, and school supplies. The drop box will remain closed until further notice, but we will be happy to receive listed items by special arrangements. Counselors and other school personnel are encouraged to also make appointments with Caroline to secure needed items for the opening of school.
Masking for a Friend

Elastic ties were in short supply, but Dan and Kay Cox have restocked and are back at work. They are sharing their time and talents so we can mask up to protect our friends, family, and neighbors. If you have not already gotten a mask from Dan and Kay, or need a second mask, please click the button below.

Throughout the summer we will announce numbers from our BINGO board, along with more details about the mission/outreach activity to complete. As you complete the activity, mark off the board number. Remember to post pictures on social media, tag us and include #growingatobc in the caption.

Between today and next Thursday complete G16 and G17 on your BINGO board. To complete G16 purchase some extra school supplies and donate them to one of our schools. Everything from tissues and hand sanitizer to markers and paper will be appreciated and put to use. For G17 come up with a creative way to thank a first responder (homemade cards, cookies, a gift card, etc).
