January 16, 2020
It is a new year and there is A LOT of new information below. Please take note of the section near the end called "This Sunday at OBC."
The Good and Beautiful Life
begins Sunday!

We will begin the second book in our year-long study of James Bryan Smith's  The Good and Beautiful series, as we turn our focus to putting on the character of Christ. Books are available in your Sunday School rooms. If you are not in a Sunday School class but requested a set of books, you may pick yours up in the Church Office.

This Sunday we begin the conversation by asking the question "what makes you happy?"
Sunday, as we celebrated the work God is doing in and through Oakland Baptist Church, we reminisced through pictures. Click the arrow in the middle of the image below to watch OBC's 2019 in Pictures.
Calling All Artists!

As part of our 70 th  Anniversary celebration, we are having an art contest! You are invited to create a worship cover to be used on our Homecoming Worship Guide next July. Here are the rules:
  • Must be representative of Oakland’s 70th Anniversary
  • Must be hand drawn in color (no digital or photo pictures will be accepted)
  • Must be on an 8 ½ x 11 portrait orientation white sheet of paper
  • Must submit a hard copy to the church office by January 30th
There will be a children's category (12 and below) and an adult category (13 and above). During the month of February, all submissions will be voted on by monetary donations which will benefit our Global Missions Offering. During the Sundays leading up to Homecoming, the top five vote receivers will be used as our Worship Guide cover photo. For more information, contact Erica Smith at  ericadbeatson@yahoo.com .
As a part of our celebration of Oakland's 70th anniversary we are creating a "Taste of Oakland" Cookbook. Imagine how many friendships have been formed, hearts have been nurtured, and stomachs have been filled while enjoying covered dish meals at OBC!

Just like a covered dish meal isn't complete without each person's dish, our cookbook will not be complete without each person's favorite recipes. Please submit up to four of your favorite recipes (appetizer, side dish, main course, breakfast, dessert, bread, etc) by January 31. You may email your recipes to cookbook@oaklandchurch.com or drop them off by the church office. We are so excited for this Taste of Oakland and look forward to seeing and making your recipes!
Check out our newest Ministry Guide. It is full of information about opportunities for fellowship, study, worship, and service. You can view it by clicking the button below. Printed copies are also available at the church. We look forward to #growingatobc in the coming months!
Let's Tackle Hunger

Our youth will be collecting non-perishable food items as part of the Souper Bowl of Caring offering. The Souper Bowl of Caring, a nationwide movement, uses the energy of the Super Bowl to care for those in their local communities who are hungry.

Help us tackle hunger in Rock Hill by placing your non-perishable food items on the table outside of the Sanctuary or the table outside of the gym. All food items collected between now and Super Bowl Sunday (February 2) will be given Project Hope. If you would prefer to make a monetary donation, please notate "Souper Bowl" on the check or online donation.
Your Help is Needed!

We are grateful to have Vanetta Bass serving as our Interim Wednesday Night Supper Coordinator, as well as Michaela Maloney who is serving as her assistant. However, a few volunteers are needed to help with set-up and clean-up. If you are willing to serve in this capacity, please click "I'll Help." If you would like more information about what is needed, please contact the church office.
