Summer Ministry Guide

We are looking forward to engaging in conversations, worship, service and fellowship with you this summer, so check out our Summer Ministry Guide and mark your calendar. Many of these activities are taking place over zoom. If you are new to Zoom, click the button below labeled "Zoom" for a few tips on connecting with us.

You will notice that there are three different Book Club opportunities this summer. If you plan to participate, please purchase the books and begin reading. We look forward to discussing Same Kind of Different as Me, The Good Neighbor, and Love Does this summer.

Join us Sunday for worship as Pastor Jeff has a conversation with his friends Eric and Katy Gash about racial injustice. This is a conversation we all need to hear. Watch it with your family, share it with your friends. For those in Sunday School classes, we encourage you to watch this conversation prior to Sunday School so that you can discuss what you hear with your friends.
Everything you need for Worship and Sunday School will be available on our website. You will find links to a Worship Guide, a recording of Worship, and Sunday School material for children, youth, and adults by clicking below on the button labeled"Worship." You can access the links to prior weeks by clicking below on the button labeled "Worship Archive."
Community Worship

Join our staff at Fountain Park on Sunday at 5PM for a Black Lives Matter Worship Experience, in memory of George Floyd.
Deacon Election

Dear friends,
The time is upon us for election of new Deacons to serve as the Class of 2023. Due to the current global climate and our worship services being conducted virtually, this election will take place online. Our Constitution and By-Laws Committee has approved this change from our normal practice.

You can access the electronic ballot by clicking the button below labeled "Vote." If you choose to vote electronically you are required to enter your name. This piece of information is only used to help insure the validity of this electronic voting process. Your name will be removed before votes are counted.  Electronic voting will close at NOON on SUNDAY.

Should you prefer to vote in person, paper ballots will be available in the office foyer beginning Monday, June 8 until Friday, June 12 from 8:00AM to 3:00PM daily. This paper ballot must be completed in the presence of a staff member or currently active Deacon. Paper voting must take place by 3PM on FRIDAY.
Should you need to review the nominees, click the button below labeled "Deacon Nominees." You can choose up to ten (10) individuals from these nominees to serve as our next Deacon class.
Thank you to the sixteen nominees who agreed to serve, if elected. And thanks to all of you for the many ways you continue to be the presence of Christ!

Grace and Peace,
Pastor Jeff

Caroline Krueger Service Scholarship

We are fortunate to have been given an endowment that is designated to assist with higher education. In September of 2018 our Educational Financial Aid Committee announced the inception of the Oakland Baptist Church Caroline Krueger Service Scholarship. During our Baccalaureate worship service on May 31, we were honored to announce that the first recipient of this scholarship is Luke Griffin. As part of the application process, candidates must volunteer a minimum of 40 hours at our Ministry Center, alongside Caroline Krueger, whose vision and passion began the Ministry Center and who still remains the lifeblood of it.

Caroline Krueger shared the following words: it gives me great pleasure to learn that the scholarship which bears my name is awarded to Luke Griffin. Luke is an exemplary young man, who has won my heart in his tireless efforts at the Oakland Baptist Ministry Center. He has striven to make life better for our clients, who often come in needing help with clothing and shoes and most often, a word of encouragement, which Luke is able to give. He has given countless Saturdays and other days to our ministry. Luke as you enter college this fall and prepare for your career, always find time to “minister unto the least of these.” Congratulations, Luke.

June 15, 8PM - Parenting & Prayer: Join Kim Shaw for a conversation about parenting, followed by a time a prayer. This conversation is intended to be an opportunity for you to share what is working and what isn't working during as we begin a summer of social distancing.

June 22, 6PM - Anxiety & Stress: Join Suzanne Ringer for a conversation about best practices for dealing with anxiety and stress in uncertain and scary time.

To join these Zoom conversations, from a computer or tablet use Meeting ID: 713 378 3329. From a phone dial 1-929-205-6099 to join by audio only. If you use the telephone number you will be prompted to enter the meeting ID.

Throughout the summer we will announce numbers from our BINGO board, along with more details about the mission/outreach activity to complete. As you complete the activity, mark off the board number. Remember to post pictures on social media, tag us and include #growingatobc in the caption.

Between today and next Thursday complete I7 and N14 on your BINGO board. For I7 check out the Connie Maxwell Children's Home Wish List (announcement above) and pick an item or two to purchase. For N14 pick some flowers (or purchase them from the grocery store, if you are comfortable) and drop them off on the porch of someone who could use a smile.
Regathering for In-person Worship

Recently Pastor Jeff announced our plan for moving from Phase 1 to Phase 2 of our guidelines for resuming activities. This date will be August 2. To read his full announcement as well as review the survey results and guidelines for regathering, click the button below.
Faith & Health

Faith and Health York County seeks to keep residents and faith communities remain healthy and informed. This week they reminded us of the increasing number of individuals in York County who are testing positive for COVID-19, as well as the increasing number of people requiring hospitalization. Click the button below to view a helpful infographic they shared. Let's all do our part to keep ourselves and our neighbors safe.

We Are Here For You!

If you need to speak with someone, please reach out to a minister or your deacon. Also, you can still use the minister on call number (803-328-3864, Ext. 0). We are here to listen and help in ways that we are able.
