May 5

Our Youth have planned a special service and are excited to have the privilege of leading worship on May 5. We hope you will join us at 8:45AM or 11AM.  Both services will be in the Sanctuary.
Welcome, Mike and Vickie!

On Sunday we had the joy of welcoming Mike Merritt and Vickie Sessions as members of Oakland Baptist Church. Mike works for Oak Hall Cap and Gown and has provided robes to supreme court judges and rings to championship teams such as, Pat Summitt's Tennessee Vols. Vickie is self employed and the proud mom of Heath Sessions.
Election of 70th Anniversary Committee

As we look toward July of 2020, which is the 70th Anniversary of Oakland Baptist Church, our Nominating Committee has recommended the following people to serve on the planning committee: Dan Cox, Anne Ledford, Ben Lucas, Beckye Partlow, Erica Smith, and David Vipperman.

We will vote, in both services, on Sunday May 5.

We will also be voting on Faye Lucas, for Trustee. Faye was nominated by our Fellowship of Deacons to replace Mike Hauss who recently resigned, as he and Teresa move to Charleston.
Pizza and Ice Cream Party

Join us on Wednesday, May 8 for an evening of fun and fellowship! Our young friends will share some of the things they have learned about missions, as well as the projects in which they have participated. We will also recognize our MANY volunteers who make all of the great things at OBC possible.

We will enjoy a dinner of pizza and salad from 5PM-6PM. At 6PM will begin our brief program and recognition, which will be followed by ice cream sundaes! If you have a child in Mission Friends or Mission Movers, we need you to be here! If you are a volunteer, in any capacity, we need you to be here! If you like to eat pizza and ice cream, we need you to be here.

Please click the button below to let us know that you are attending. The cost is the same as other Wednesday night meals.
Summer Sunday School
for young adults

Whether you are a college-age person who permanently lives in the area, are home for the summer or have just graduated and are beginning a career, we hope you will join us as often as you can for Bible study and Fellowship on Sunday mornings from 9:45AM - 10:45AM. We will meet in room B5 (in the basement), beginning May 12. Leigh Reynolds will be teaching this class.
Do you have a college graduate?

If you have a college graduate, let us know so we can celebrate them in an upcoming Weekly Update! Please send us their photo along with the degree and school from which they received it and any plans they may have, at this point, for upcoming employment. You may email this information to Missy (
New Sunday School Class

We are blessed with a number of young adults in their 30’s and 40’s such that a need has arisen to begin a new Sunday School class. To help jumpstart this class, Pastor Jeff and Krista will be hosting a cookout on  Friday, May 10th from 5:30-7:30PM  at their home. Please RSVP to the church office by Wednesday, May 8 th  if you plan to attend.
The Mission Movers were so excited to deliver over 1,000 soda can tabs to the Ronald McDonald House on Sunday. RMH is able to turn the tabs in for money. This is one of the ways they are able to fund their great program. Thank you to everyone who collected their tabs and brought them to church!

The OBC Ministry Center Committee would like to thank everyone who helped out with our recent Bake Sale! Thank you to those who contributed delicious baked goods, as well as those of you purchased items or made monetary contributions. Because of your generosity we were able to raise almost $1,000 to benefit the Ministry Center.

Thank you to the WOBC (Women of OBC) who spread love and appreciation throughout Sullivan Middle School last week with their "grab and go" breakfast and snacks. This gesture was greatly appreciated by the faculty and staff at Sullivan!
VBS Volunteers
We need your help!

Thank you to those who have already signed up to help with Vacation Bible School! If you have not, we are still in need of some volunteers to ensure that this is a special week for our children.

If you are available the week of June 24-28 from 9AM - Noon, we would greatly appreciate if you would consider being a leader in one of our preschool classes or being an assistant in one of the rooms that children rotate through (recreation, art, storytelling, etc). If you have any questions or are able to volunteer, please contact Kim Shaw (
